We are told that the Knox County Election Commission will meet at 4PM on Thursday* in the old Court House and that Convenience Voting will be on the agenda.

The Convenience Voting pilot program was approved by a bipartisan vote in the the State Legislature last year and approved by City Council on a 6 to 3 vote for the upcoming City elections. It had already been approved for the recent Farragut election, which was the first in the state to use it.

It is our understanding that approval of Convenience Voting for the upcoming City election requires a 4 out of 5 majority vote by the Election Commission. Word is that Republican members are being lobbied to vote it down.

(*I can't find a meeting notice or schedule on their website, but maybe it's just me.)

UPDATE: From a forwarded email from the EC Office: "The Knox County Election Commission will meet at 4 PM on Thursday, August 6th in Room 237 of the Courthouse."

That is crazy talk

If there ever was a sure bet in this town this is it. It is a done deal. Republicans lobbying the Election Commission, that is funny. Your crystal ball needs service.

I was wrong on the outcome. Didn't see that coming.

Convenience voting

Why in the world would anyone lobby against this plan? Just because someone with more organization, skill, and non-partisan professionalism than they have has created this simple way to provide more opportunities to vote!
The 2008 election proved that Greg McKay provided a much less complicated, less confusing, better organized way to vote. Knox County selected voting with voting machines that did not make ONE error. Early voting allowed 20 days before Election Day to go to one of 5 voting Centers to vote...over70% of Knox County took this opportunity to vote...and 'convenience voting' makes it even easier!

Convenience voting will continue to use the 5 voting centers, and the voters can vote from 20 days all the way through Election Night to vote.
These dilberts obviously do not even know why they are complaining!
