By way of Michael Grider, Gray Television, owners of WVLT, will take over management and operation of Young Broadcasting's TV stations which include WATE. Details here.
Young Broadcasting, which filed for bankruptcy earlier this year, apparently received no acceptable offers in a recent auction of their TV stations and will be taken over by creditors who are looking to contract out station management and operations.
UPDATE: Broadcasting & Cable
According to court documents, Young’s KRON San Francisco, WATE Knoxville and WLNS Lansing are not part of the Gray management deal.

kicking the sickly horse
Should we care? Except for the occasional UT ball game I haven't watched local tv in years. The only thing on the tv thingy locally is the daily body count and some sports. They're irrelevant. The future of local news is in websites like this one. It'll be interesting to watch what happens to the local stations in the next few years as broadband becomes ubiquitous. (Thanks for posting about it tho. It's good to keep up)
I'm sure Randy's flattered
I'm sure Randy's flattered that you think his website and others like it are the future of local news, but where do you think Randy gets much of his information? There is original content here, but he utilizes links to stories from local news organizations.. You know, the ones you no longer watch and describe as "irrelevant."
Point taken. But, two
Point taken. But, two things: 1) It wasn't intended to be flattery, although i think this site is a great source of local news--I wish there were more local and regional, less national. 2) ...much of his information... (?) I don't see it. I see lots from newspapers, but not much original reporting from local tv, much less in-depth reporting. Please, prove me wrong. I'd love to see really good content from the local traditional media.

Gray to Manage Young Stations
From what I'm hearing, WATE, KRON in San Francisco and WLNS in Lansing Michigan, are excluded from the Gray management deal.
The deal has been
The deal has been tentatively approved.

Not So Fast, My Friend
And yet another update:

WATE
I enjoy WATE better than the other locals, I wonder what will happen with this, don't really like WVLT.
WVLT SUCKS
This company has changed too much. We loved some of the people let go, and wvlt has changed too much. Now I won't watch 6 or 8 if it's all the same. I stopped taking the paper, now I don't root for WVLT to win any more. They went from 3rd to 1st, and now back to THIRD, only to end there now.
I wont support those losers any more !
WVLT SUCKS
I won't say something that strong because I used to really like WVLT. But, the managers have to see it changed way too much for me this last year. I'm so sad to not see one of my favorite personalities when I watch. Scotty B. was a local guy and my daughters loved him. My family watched him for years and my aunt said he was the nicest guy when he spoke at their church. My niece had him at her school. I just don't like the change.
I miss Scott. I stopped watching the 4 o'clock show, and even Andy Griffith. Sad, sad.
