As introductions go, that
As introductions go, that one was a touch lacking so I'm gonna help out. David is a '77 graduate of Catholic High. He has a undergrad and JD from Howard University and is a practicing lawyer in Knoxville. He is married with a son and a daughter. He has also been blessed with the smartest, most involved in Knoxville issues brother a guy could ever wish for.(me, duh!)
Feel free to post some questions, concerns, suggestions or desires to donate here and he will get back to you asap.

I don't live in District 6,
I don't live in District 6, I don't even live in Knoxville. I do wish you good luck in pursuing this possibly thankless job.
In reviewing what District 6 covers and determining the existing council person, the City of Knoxville has a link to a district map. This map shows Robert Booker as the current council person for District 6. If you enbiggen the map to get a closer look at the areas covered, Mark Brown is shown as the council person for District 6. Debugging applications is hard work.
thanks for the map. district
thanks for the map. district 6 looks decidedly gerrymandered, so could you describe roughly what neighborhoods are included? (actually, all the districts look a bit gerrymandered.)
aside from that, could you (dupree) tell us why you're running and what you hope to bring to the council? thanks in advance.
Hopefully David will address
Hopefully David will address your questions here but FYI there is an overview at www.daviddupree.blogspot.com.

a bit of why
District 6 covers a few distinct areas. Just to list a few:
East Knoxville
Downtown
Old city
Mechanicsville
Part of Lonsdale
Part of Pond Gap community (east of West High School)
I believe I bring a lot to the table. First of all, my life is rooted in service to fellowman--serving the community. While I feel that I have impacted many people down through the years, inside, I feel challenged to do more. I firmly believe "to whom much is given, much is required."
I hope to bring to the council my broad background. I had a double major in undergrad in Accounting and Computer-Based Information Systems. As you know, (thanks to Cafkia) I am a practicing attorney. I also have a strong background in statistical research methodology. I am a graduate of Calvary Bible Institute in Washington, DC and a licensed minister. I used to be certified as a lifeguard trainer and CPR instructor, but haven't been able to maintain my certifications. I am an excellent choir conductor/trainer. And the more I think about it, I think about other skills and involvements, but getting too sleepy to think about it right now. (1:50am)
I hope also to bring a level head, out-the-box thinking, and my ability to get along with anyone. :-)

District 6 was gerrymandered
District 6 was gerrymandered in order to get a majority African-American district.
Bob Booker is the current Council representative for the district. He was appointed to complete Mark Brown's term, when Brown resigned to be a judical commissioner or some such.
I visited your blog, David,
I visited your blog, David, and I like it! I am not in your district, and in fact, live in the county. But, best of luck in your quest to join City Council. We need good people to step up at all levels of local government.
Gratitude
Thanks Tess,
I appreciate your comments. You may live in the county, but that doesn't have to stop you from talking me up to the city folks. :-)
Excellent Web site
Thanks to the link to the web site.
Much luck with your candidacy for the sixth district seat. I will be watching your campaign closely.
Dupree Candidacy
is a joke. I feel so sorry for him I will write out a check today in the amount of 0.01 cents so that he can have something to report on his campaign finance report for the next quarter.
DONT
Save your sorriness for someone else, and due all of us a favor, don't bankrupt yourself.
To: Mr. Dupree, good luck with your campaign..
