Chepa's opened a few months ago in the Food City shopping center on Chapman Hwy (across hwy from Kroger). It is family owned and the food is the best Mexican I've had in Knoxville. It rivals the Mexican food we had when we lived in San Francisco. It's a sit down tacqueria with standard fare and nightly specials. Best thing for me is that they get vegetarian. They make a vegetarian chimichanga to die for, filled with piping hot grilled onions, peppers, squash, & zucchini. I've eaten there three times and each time I've been happy happy that there exists such yummy food so close to home. Business seems a little slow there while it booms at the very mediocre Mexican restaurant across the street. Worries me that this family-owned gem won't make it. So, get out there an eat at Chepa's! Oh, and its really cheap too.

On your recommendation, I
On your recommendation, I went. It was as presented, tasty food, friendly and attentive staff, reasonable prices. It is my full intention to go back there. They do not have a beer permit yet but they are working on that. I did not inquire about stronger beverage mostly because beer is my thing.
Normally in my all too infrequent Mexican food jaunts, I would hit Senior Taco. I do like the food there but in my limited experience of one trip, these guys are as good. You should give them a shot.

Mothers day
I had my honorary daughter take me there for mothers' day. Based on your recommendation I had the veggie chimichanga. Mmmm good. I love grilled veggies.
We both agreed that Cheapas is a good name for a restaurant that I would tend to patronize.
Chepa's Restaurant
Okay, folks, here's the deal. This is the real thing. Real. Good. Mexican Food. Now located in the old Bob's Mountaineer further up Chapman Highway in Seymour, these people know rockin' good food. The family owns Dona Chepa's at Green Acres Flea Market on Alcoa Highway and and this place was in South Knoxville. The place was great before but now, they have a buffet with chimichangas, tamales, stuff to make taco salad, tacos, and some great salsa. The decor is a little like a Mexican Restaurant ended up crashing the scene at a ski resort, but you're here for the food, peeps. BTW, you can still order off the menu and um...the fajitas and chile rellenos rock! Don't miss this place.
Gotta disagree
I hate to disagree, but I've been to Chepa's twice, and I thought the food was pretty poor. I've traveled fairly extensively in Mexico (Guanajuato, San Miguel de Allende, Cancun, Chichen Itza, Guadalajara, Chapala, etc.), and based on my experience I'd have to say that Chepa's food is pretty sub-standard. The first time I went there, the waiter didn't even know what huevos rancheros were, even though they were on the menu! The second time I went, the food was over-cooked, dry, and flavorless.
The most authentic Mexican food around this area, for my pesos anyway, is El Mescal in Bearden, in the same plaza as the new EarthFare. These friendly folks offer spicy salsa, hot fresh tortillas, generous well-seasoned fajitas, and pollo Michoacan that can't be beat. I even bought their T-shirt!
Alas, no beer
Too close to a church.
But I think their food is great.
Good Stuff Folks
This little restaurant really rocks!!! We had known about Chepa's being in Seymour for some months but hadn't had the opportunity to try them until recently. WOW!!!!! We were both surprised and completely impressed to say the least. The staff was friendly, the restaurant was very clean and the food was the best Mexican I've ever had, and I've had tons!!!
If you haven't eaten there yet, do yourself a favor and give it a try. The flavors are uniquely different than the big chains (which are all identical in menu and taste), the food is fresh and at prices that can't be beat.
This is the type of restaurant that Seymour needs. Please go there. You'll be happy that you did.
Jerry
Chepa's - GREAT Mexican Food In Seymour!
My wife and I have visited Chepa's in Seymour twice and have thoroughly enjoyed our meal both times. The folks that operate Chepa's are extremely friendly and the food is outstanding - especially the chimichangas!! You won't be disappointed with Chepa's in Seymour!
