A video short with clips from the Conservative Tent Revival Meeting in Knoxville yesterday, with a little taste of the wingnuttery on display.

Bad, bad politics

I love how the one dude actually comes out against universal health care.

Not against government providing universal health care, but actually against the idea of everyone having access to health care, regardless of whether it's provided by the "free market," the government, or some mix of those two.

These people are going to lose elections for a long time to come.

It's beautiful to see.

People like us, not minorities ? Nice captioning ..

Geez Randy .. what propoganda outfit helped you come up with the captioning ? Nice work with the commas. Who needs Susan Roesgen when we've got you guys.

Actually, I think Roesgen was somewhat unprofessional. OTOH, she was interviewing a guy with a sign portraying Obama as Hitler so perhaps some lack of objectivity was appropriate.

I guess you had to get creative when you're dealing

with well-behaved crowds. 2 minutes at just about any progressive anti-Bush rally in 2004/8 would have produced about 10 times as much 'shocking' behavior.

Beware

Looks some potential participants of the Modern Militia Movement, obviously right-wing extremists, possibly terrorists, can't we get one of those DHS fusion centers to do something about them?

Pretty Scary, Actually

This is more unnerving than the tea parties held elsewhere in the country.

"..from all enemies, foreign and domestic..... freedom depends on the action of this Army, this Marine Corps..."

Couple this with the Oath-Keepers craziness, and you can see pretty clearly where this is going:
- Promote the idea of Obama being an illegitimate president (the birth certificate issue that continues to be repeated)
- Scare people with the idea that their guns will be seized this fall. Get them to buy more guns and ammunition.
- Convince them that they don't need to pay taxes (and if your house is being repossessed, it's a very compelling argument).
- Create incidents between the people being forced out of their homes and the "government" taking them.
- Convince the military and law enforcement to take their side as being "patriotic." Any rank-and-file member who actually tries to follow the law will be pressured by others on the line to "be a patriot" against this "illegitimate" president/government.

Even if you're not causing a direct revolution, you're certainly creating an environment where violence will occur, and violence is a tool to silence your opposition. The critical piece deciding how this will go is the professionalism and leadership of local law enforcement agencies that will be first called in to deal with these crazies.

If the economy gets back on track (and I really hope that happens, soon and solidly), then all their efforts will be for naught. We can have faith in the fact that 71% of Americans believe in Obama's economic policies. We cannot allow the threats and fear mongering by teabaggers to silence Americans and make them feel alone or in the minority. Keep your Obama stickers on your car. Speak out when needed. Remind your fellow 71% that these people are in the minority, and a bunch of crybaby losers, and that they're the ones being unpatriotic by not supporting their legitimately elected President.

Wish it were true. The stuff that's being stirred up now, fear(hysteria?), hate, racism won't be overcome by positive numbers in unemployment or the GDP.

Unfortunately, any success that President Obama has will just make these people hate him more. That's the way they are.

What needs to happen is for responsible Republicans to stand up and denounce this junk.

This is what McVeigh hoped would happen, the extreme becoming mainstream.

Fourteen years later, but it's still happening, and it needs to be stopped.

I couldn't finish watching this...

Yeah, sorry about that. I had to sit through an hour or so of it, and I wasn't able to boil it down to 1:30 or 2:00. There was just too much. I cut a lot of good stuff and I'm sure I missed a lot more. And the raw video wasn't even half of it.

You are a better man than I...

I want to be a film editor, but Lerd! if I had to sit there and edit raw footage of that much stupid...I'd hang myself with the film stock.

Kudos to you sir!
