Editor's note: Our KnoxViews
Editor's note: Our KnoxViews reporter in the field said she asked the guy with the "Fare Tax" sign if "fair" was misspelled on purpose or what and what did it mean. He said no, he didn't realize it was misspelled, and ran off to get a different sign.
I don't get this
I don't get this one:

The "significance" of "Bahama Obama" escapes me. I guess it was an opportunity to do an old-timey make-fun-of-the-darky cartoon.
Beats the hell out of me.
Beats the hell out of me. Maybe they are confusing the Bahamas with Hawaii? There were apparently a lot of strange, misguided ideas for sale today.
how many of these dumbasses
how many of these dumbasses took a federal highway to get to this shindig?
Ok, let's stop spending "their" money.
what else?
No more GPS, no more
No more GPS, no more Internet, no more US Mail (they can use FedEx or UPS), running water & sewer are out, treated water is out, forget about using 911 services, no more weather forecasts or severe weather alerts, they can forego their Social Security and Medicare benefits, they are no longer afforded bankruptcy protection, they can forego patent and copyright protection, they will be barred from entrance into National Parks, no more first-time homebuyer programs from FHA and the like, they will be exempt from the protection of labor laws (as will their children), they will no longer be eligible for scholarships like the Fulbright or other state-sponsored programs, they can do without maps from the US Geological Survey, they will not be afforded the protection of the United States while on overseas travel, they will have to pay an exorbitant FAA surcharge for safe passage on aircraft, they can stop taking veterans' benefits, they cannot serve in the military or run for public office...

Re: No more GPS...
I pay a utility bill every month, and another bill for internet (and, oddly enough, with no taxes added to it). Don't you? We also have a lottery that funds college students. And as a salaried (exempt) employee, I don't fall under many of those labor laws.
That's pretty funny, you
That's pretty funny, you really think that 11 cents per kwh you are sending in is paying for the true cost of your electricity? And what you pay for internet service pays for all the infrastructure that established the internet?
It's hillarious
You think that we couldn't do better on our own. ATT paid for those phone poles there kiddo. Not to mention that if we got rid of the double taxation of the income tax it would help our economy.
You pay in your witholding and so does your boss. Then you pay again in every product you buy.
This straw argument about no more government is ludicrous. We want less government. Not zero.
What we object to is the social programming.
Of course you wouldn't understand that. You need the comfort of daddy holding your hand.
Re: how many...
I think a large contingent of the folks who attended would gladly do without any of the above if it meant an extra $20,000/year in their pocket. $20,000 per year over a lifetime can buy a lot in the way of education and firearms (personal protection). And gasoline taxes cover roads; utility bills are paid for electricity.
From what I was reading on
From what I was reading on buttons, flyers, and placards, it was like every crackerpot in the area got a yard pass for lunch.
However, the Nashville outing was so poorly executed that only about 1/10th of the throng there could even hear what was being said. Someone in their brain trust put the PA at ground level. The sound effectively radiated about 50' and even then, it was a mumble. And it was a mumble punctuated by ceaseless honking of the same protestors circling the block to support what people were saying. I dunno, I suppose you could have supported it if you could have heard it at all. It must have been frustrating for people who showed up there who actually wanted to be involved.
Y'all teabaggers need to hire some Democrats to do your groundwork. You know, people who have actual experience in running protests in rain or shine, rather than the backslapping wine & cheese receptions that you've got a handle on.

Easy to pick out the uncommon in the crowd and use them to further your agenda. It's what you people do.
"Child porn, abortion,
"Child porn, abortion, godless greed." "Socialism caused the Great Depression." (??)
Interesting mix of sentiments.
New Deal
I dont get the "child porn.." either.
But on the New Deal IMO here's what's going on with the new right.
In '52 Ike ran on what he called "modern Republicanism"
Which was backing "the basic New Deal reforms while opposing
more expansion of the federal government in social & economic affairs."
From '64 till '06 conservatives followed Ike's theory of "modern Republicanism & opposed every expansion of the federal government
in social & economic affairs".
The conservative movement was really upset with the Great Society & from that point on believed that all new liberal programs were leading the country down the path of socialism.
Reagan's line "I didn't leave the Democratic Party the Democratic Party left me." was not directed @ the New Deal but the Great Society.
However, after the '06 mid term elections, the new right began their assult on the New Deal as the root of evil.
Futhermore, the new right has also adopted the neo-conservative approach to world affairs.Tracing US problems back to Yalta & their perception that FDR gave eastern Europe away to the Soviets.
Then following with the old arguement from Who lost China..to Korea..to Cuba..to Vietnam...now Iraq.
To the new right the President is grounded in a socialist New Deal approach to domestic affairs & an appeaser to the enemies of our country in Iraq.
I could not disagree more but that's to me where the new right is coming from.
Plus as the employment market continues to contract folks are looking for jobs that 2 years ago they would not have considered.
The fact is latinos over the years have taken those jobs.
This has caused great tension.
I do agree with those on this thread that the climate within the new right could indeed trigger a third party in '12.
I think you've done an
I think you've done an accurate job of explaining what the new right's leaders want the new right's constituents to believe.
But I don't think this is what the leadership actually believes.
If you want to know what the leadership believes, check out a copy of
The Wrecking Crew by Thomas Frank. It pretty well exposes what the new right has really been all about, not what the new right has claimed to be about.
And there is a difference. A big one.
Great!
Where do I donate to get this third party spoiler party off the ground???

The comments I have just
The comments I have just read are so disturbing. It proves once again that people who have an opinion that steps on the toes of the left are bashed with hate and condemnation. Psychologically speaking, you must feel very threatened by the growing numbers of people that are unhappy with the direction that this country is moving in and policies that are being put in place that are changing the face of the America we know and live. Sorry guys, this isn't just a "Rebublican" outrage, it is a democrat, independent and an "I just don't like what is going on!" outrage. You need to get your facts straight and find out what these people are upset about and quit acting like you are on the playground and accidentally got hit in the head with a kickball. It's not about no government, it's about not having a huge government that leads to corruption, power and greed. Read the Constitution, it will serve you well, and maybe you will realize that government is supposed to be a servant for the people. Our government officials are way out of control and there has to be a line drawn somewhere.
and that line hasn't been
and that line hasn't been stepped over for the last eight years with Bush's profligate spending and tromping of the Constitution? Where was your outrage then, Annie? Why now? Why not then? Wouldn't it be reasonable to give the new administration a chance to right the boat?
seriously. I'd like an answer to that.
Thank you Annie Smith - very
Thank you Annie Smith - very well said and right on the money
The comments I have just
The comments I have just read are so disturbing.
I re-read the comments and didn't read anything all that disturbing. What disturbed you? Dumbass? Crackerpot? "Dumped all Republicans in the harbor and took the tea home"?
I am more disturbed to see people with signs alleging the President is a communist and a thief. In addition, I am concerned that all of these people think they are being taxed more when they are being taxed less. Guess that can be blamed on the government subsidized public education.
Thank You!!
Thank you bizgrrl for stating the facts so well. I also found it very disturbing to read some of the signs being held by the "tea baggers."
These poor misguided souls have no idea what they are protesting. They just blindly follow their fearless leaders...Fox, Limbaugh, Beck, Hannity, O'Reily and Coulter. With leaders like those how can they expect to hear the truth about our new President? All they ever expose themselves to are endless lies and misquoted information from the right wing smear machine.
Psychologically speaking,
You want to get into a pop psych analysis of political movements? Since you opened the door, let's take a gander at the massive daddy issues that were on display in the last eight years as most of these same teabaggers just snoozed or stared off into space as unaccounted billions were flushed down the toilet in Iraq. Marvel at how they decry the erosion of personal liberties while they were cheerleading the wholesale destruction of the Constitution, practically begging for Uncle Sucker to bug our phones.
And standing on so-called principle, the constant whining got you your tax cuts during a time of economic prosperity under the blithe assumption that all this economic growth would pay for everything. Free ice cream for everybody!
Did we begin to cover our debts on the Iraq mess before all of this Wall Street stuff jumped to the front page? Had we learned any lessons from LTCM? (Let me repeat - LTCM. Go read about it. Figure out for yourself that this situation today could easily have been averted ten years ago.)
"Psychologically speaking," the narcissism on display in this statement is simply unparalleled.
Where was your copy during the last eight years? I'm sure you know - your president was wiping his ass with it. Every time he stapled a signing statement to the law, he took a steaming dump on the Constitution that you claim to love so much.
Solution: Stop affording corporations the same "rights" that people have. Corporations were treated as servant organizations, as wards of the state, during the better part of the last century. Our democracy fared pretty damned well during that time.

yeah
what Andy said.
"The arc of the moral universe is long, but it bends toward justice."
Well now.
Those tax cuts are what kept this crap from happening long ago. The Democrats held war spending hostage to higher spending to fund social programs. That's why there were no balanced budgets.
It was the Murtha's and Kerry's and Pelosi's that you can look to for that.
ANNIE...PLEASE!!
"GROWING NUMBERS OF PEOPLE THAT ARE UNHAPPY WITH THE DIRECTION THIS COUNTY IS MOVING IN AND POLICIES THAT ARE BEING PUT IN PLACE THAT ARE CHANGING THE FACE OF THE AMERICA WE KNOW AND LOVE. YOU NEED TO GET YOUR FACTS STRAIGHT AND FIND OUT WHAT THSEE PEOPLE ARE UPSET ABOUT."
OKAY. STRAIGHTEN US OUT. WHAT ARE YOU UPSET ABOUT? WHICH POLICIES ARE YOU UPSET ABOUT? WHAT DIRECTION DO YOU THINK THE COUNTRY IS GOING IN? HOW HAS LOWERING YOUR TAXES CAUSED YOU HARM? HOW HAS ADDRESSING THE LOUSY HEALTHCARE SYSTEM IN AMERICA CAUSED YOU PAIN? HOW DOES MAKING A COLLEGE EDUCATION MORE AFFORDABLE CAUSE YOU TO SUFFER?
PLEASE TELL US WHY YOU ARE SO UPSET AND FEEL THE NEED TO PROTEST THIS ADMINISTRATIONS GOALS.
Caps lock is not your friend
There is no tax cut. What you are seeing is a simple adjustment in the "withholding" from your check. It is not a tax cut. they are just taking less out of your check against your yearly tax bill. When you have to PAY at the end of the year, instead of getting something back, it will open your eyes.
Maybe.....who am I kidding.....koolaid anybody?
Sorry guys, this isn't just
Does having Stacey Campfield as a speaker demonstrate the non-partisan nature of this gathering? Please tell us who represented Democrats, Independents and "I just don't like what's going on" folks. If you can't, I'd suggest that you're just ticked that your side lost last fall, and are unconsoled by living in this Red State 49th in Edumacation oasis. Where can you run to, Ms. Annie?
I think the point was to
I think the point was to invite people opposed to future debt and taxes, and that just so happens to be mostly conservatives. So they asked some conservatives to speak. The small contingent of Democrats were protesting on the otherside of the hill -- "what, you all are for MORE debt and taxes on us and our kids?"
Uh-huh
I could tell that was what it was all about just by reading the signs there. Totally non-partisan signs every one of them. And I know that it's true because these very same people protested like hell when Bush was burning great piles on money in Iraq. We all remember that, don't we?
And the promoters of this farcical exercise, like Murdoch's Fox News and Dick Armey's lobbying group, we all know how they are all about reducing future debt and taxes and are just totally non-committal regarding issues of partisanship and the class war on the poor.
Speaking of poor: poor deluded idiots. Here's your sign!
"The arc of the moral universe is long, but it bends toward justice."
Dear Easily Disturbed
Madam, you are either embarrassingly clueless or an unrepentant liar. I have been on the internet for many years now. I have been verbally abused on tech forums (a political thread perhaps) for giving voice to doubt in republican dogma. On those occasions when I have actually spoken of concepts popular with liberals, the invective and personal threats have led me to tell people where I live and invite them to come speak to me face-to-face. The worst of the discourse here more resembles Victorian tea party etiquette than what I have been subjected to from republicans.
However, you need not take my word for any of this. I challenge you to copy any of what you consider to be seriously liberal postings from this forum and go to a few conservative/republican blogs or fora and post it/them as your own. I strongly suggest that you create and use a pseudonym if you choose to accept the challenge. If your experience mirrors mine and others related to me, you will need to be able to divorce yourself from the hatred and invective that will be directed at your faux identity.
I will not suggest which sites you try this on as I would not want you to think I am there trying to skew the results. Of course, once you are done, I would like to know what response you got and where you went to get it.

Thanks for the confirmation
Of everything she said. The first sentence of your post is nothing but a bash. Clueless and LIAR are hardly what I'd call considered debate.
You lose.
Our government officials are
Our government officials are way out of control and there has to be a line drawn somewhere.
And our corporations are not out of control?
THE AUDACITY OF NOPE!!
I heard that someone fainted at the "tea bagging" yesterday. As a good samaritan rushed over to assist he shouted, "Is there a Health Care Representative in the house?!!"
A comparison
Folks are sure making a big deal over a crowd size that would be an insult to a class A football game.
(link...)
Sorry, trying to be
Sorry, trying to be productive with my day. I did want to check back to see what kind of response I had received and man, you guys are predictable. What you guys are not getting is that these tea parties were a rally for people who are FED UP! Yes, we were fed up last year, the year, before that and most of us for the last 20 years. We are upset with politicians that say anything to get elected(republican, democrat, independant)but do not represent what the people initially elected them for. It is a Washington arrogance that has been going on for years. What is upsetting about the Obama whitehouse is that the acceleration of spending and policy changes over the past three months has been overwhelming. The american people can not even get a handle on it. All we want to achieve is for Washington and mainly our own local and state representatives, to understand that we are tired and it is time that they know that the american public is not asleep anymore and will not tolerate irresponsible behavior. No matter who would have been president(republican, democrat, independant). Alot of these people in Washington have been there for years and have lost touch with the ordinary american. The line must be drawn-honestly it is nothing personal with Barack Obama. I'm accountable in the way I handle my job, aren't you?
honestly it is nothing
honestly it is nothing personal with Barack Obama
How could it be? It's hard to imagine a less appropriate target for this long-standing disgust with Washington than someone who served in the Senate for just a few years before riding a surprise grassroots campaign past consummate insider Hillary Clinton and been-in-office-since-the-S&L-debacle septagenarian John McCain.
And what more inappropriate time for this disgust to awaken than three months into Obama's efforts to deal with the pillaging by silver-spoon elitist George W. Bush?
anniesmith
I too was disgusted @ the whole Washington insider game & it's why..way back in the late fall of '06 when Obama first floated the idea of running for president I decided if Obama ran I was going to vote him in the Democratic primary.
Obama ran & I proudly cast my vote for Obama in the Democratic primary & in the general election
I never thought,in a million years, that when Obama became President the economy would be in the mess it's in.The President is working hard to get us headed in the right direction.
And as the President says if the legislation he's moved thru congress doesn't work then he will lose the next election.
This mess we are in did not happen over night & the problems we face will not be solved in a few short months.
Please give the President's agenda some time & see if we aren't headed in the right direction.
As Thomas Jefferson said so well..we must have in our country:
"A decent respect to the opinions of mankind."
With Jefferson's words in mind..I respect your opinion.
Please respect my opinion when I say:
I firmly believe the President is living up to the preamble's declaration to "form a more perfect union".
We ARE predictable
Post something with little basis in fact and danged if somebody around here won't point that out.
Now about that irresponsible behavior you're all upset about...would be anything like Domestic Spying, Torture, lying the country into a war, or something like that?
Something that is to good to
Something that is to good to be true, probably is. Be sure to examine more thoroughly some of these feel good right now policies. Change isn't necessarily the best thing, there are repercussions to desperation.
The definition of insanity...
is to keep doing the same thing over and over again and expecting a different outcome each time.
Change in this instance is not only a good thing it is necessary.
Deregulation of the banking industry begun under Reagan and continued under Bush 1, Clinton, and Bush 2 is what caused the economic meltdown. Allowing the banks to "self-regulate" clearly has not worked for the financial markets or the housing and lending industries.
Cutting taxes under Reagan, Bush 1, Clinton (although his cuts were targeted more at the middle class), and Bush 2 for the top 10% of earners DID NOT lead to a trickle down economy as promised by the "new conservatives". Instead the rich, who understand the principles of NOT spending your principal cash (that's how they stay rich), continued to accrue more capital which they did not spend or invest as much as the conservative administrations would have liked us to believe. Meanwhile, the bottom 90% of earners in this country saw their wages stay flat or only slightly increase far behind normal inflation and cost-of-living. Yet, even while earning power of the middle class was actually decreasing, people were encouraged to spend beyond their means by Washington, the lending industry, and the housing industry -- credit was so easy to come by and was so misunderstood by so many people, but you didn't hear anyone telling folks to slow down and save more...lord no, they just wanted their profits and they wanted them now.
So...where the hell were all you teabaggers? Did you just wake up from your Rip Van Winkle naps to find that the economy had circled the drain? Or were you buying into the load of horse manure that Wall Street was selling even though you claim to know better?
The only people you are really mad at are yourselves for being duped so badly, but you have to have someone to blame and liberals have always made good targets...we're fluffy and soft (so you think), we don't know how to fight back (so you think), it's easy to vilify us because we ain't tough guys like Ahnold or G. Gordon Liddy (so you think)...well you got another think coming. We won, you lost...so sit down, shut up, and hold on...we're going to fix this mess you made whether you like it or not. And once we do, you too will reap the benefits of some enlightened planning and REGULATION that will keep us from having to deal with the boom and bust cycles that we had to put up with from 1792 up until the Great Depression. Socialism did not cause the Great Depression...unregulated corporate practices and GREED caused the Great Depression and all the recessions that went before it...as well as the panics that followed each tumble of the stock markets. After regulation was put into place, we had recessions, but not the all-out panics that had marked the cycle before those regulations. Removing the regulations let corporations go back the "old" new way of doing business and this economy is what you got from that.
If you don't like the way things have turned out, you only have yourselves and your wonderful conservative leaders to blame.

you're both wrong
What caused the great depression was the pandemic flu outbreak of 1917. This caused a ganeral running down of the economy that was ignored until it was too late.
Now quit trying to create blame where none is needed.
What you are seeing right now is the result of picking repeatedly at a scab. Every recession was treated with a new government bandaid. Now the economy is mumified.
It isn't conservatism that did this. It's government.
Actually...
The Great Depression was the last of a series of boom and bust cyclical events that have been happening in the free market economy of the United States since the country's founding. This cycle happened about every decade or so, with periods of great prosperity and progress followed by panics sparked by bank failures of unregulated banks that got into trouble due to the greed of the guys running them.
Once the banking regulations that FDR pushed through Congress took effect the cycle was broken, we had recessions but NOT the all out panics since deposits were insured and guaranteed so that people would not lose their total life savings if their bank should go belly up due to mismanagement. When Reagan and Bush 1 and Clinton and Bush 2 ALL allowed deregulation to happen, this economy is what we got...people who lost their retirement savings...panic...etc. The old "boom and bust" cycle was back with a vengeance.
The free market is NOT free...its cost is the high risk of catastrophic failures. If regulation is not re-established and ENFORCED, we can look forward to this very same economic crisis happening again in about ten years...fifteen or twenty if we get lucky and people develop longer memories (which I highly doubt).

Whitescreek?
I don't believe I have stated anything that is not factual. My goal here is to help you understand what the tea parties were all about. It is my position, you can believe that I am wrong and that's O.K. If I went into what exact policies I am upset about, I would be here all day and the next. I can admit through every administration there have been mistakes, wrong-doings, and corruption. Just because the timing of these tea parties are during the Obama administration does not mean that we are just blaming him, but yet I do believe he is making mistakes as well as others. Are we just supposed to wait and not voice any opinions as to not offend the party that is in office at the time-that's crazy. It is what it is, you can't control circumstance.
Just because the timing of
Just because the timing of these tea parties are during the Obama administration does not mean that we are just blaming him
Really? So all those "Obama is a fascist", Impeach Obama, Bahama Obama (actually, can you explain that?) and other "complimentary" references to Obama I saw yesterday didn't mean you are just blaming him?
Where were the signs blaming Bush? Cause I sure didn't see any?
Bahama Obama (actually, can
More ahistorical crap from the Fever Swamp - supposedly Obama is now responsible for enriching offshore tax havens; US companies that operate out of Bahamian P.O. boxes. (And all of these companies incorporated in the Caribbean, um, when?)

Should there have been Bush sr. signs, Clinton, Reagan, Carter etc...Obama is the president now he and Congress are who we are trying to make our voices heard. Are you guys living in present reality, I'm getting scared. Did I hit an internet time warp????
Did I hit an internet time
Well, you were the one complaining about how bad that things have been for 20 years. So? Where have you been up until now? No outrage to spare until now?

Prove the "growing numbers." You claim it; prove it.
And you proved how many were "fed up" with the numbers last November? How? Predictions are that Republicans will lose more Congressional seats in 2010. Will that prove to us how many are "fed up?"
numbers
Why are you so convinced this is a Republican event. My friend there are many Democrats that are fed up too! I don't know who will have the most Congressional seats in 2010, but I only will elect those who are passionate about representing the people. This grass roots call to action has just begun, numbers are growing on all sides of the political spectrum and if Washington continues to not listen to the voices that are starting to want to be heard then there will be change, that is what democracy is all about. If they want their jobs then they will have to start listening or they will be booted out, simple as that. Why are you so scared? By the way, there are other elections before 2010.
IT IS WHAT IT IS!
If this weren't a
If this weren't a Republican/right winger event then someone like me should've felt comfortable going. I'm fed up and I think the Geithner banking plan is a disgrace. The stimulus plan, I also disagree with albeit my criticisms are from the left ala Krugman. Your 'non-partisan' event had signs condemning abortion, FDR, and accusing Obama of socialism. I know well enough from the pictures, slogans, and demographics that someone like me would most certainly NOT be comfortable or welcome there.
Growing numbers?
Yes, 71% of Americans say that Obama's economic policies are on track and will fix the economy. THERE's your growing number.
metulj
Yeah, metulj?, I'm really going to enjoy that 13.00$ I'm getting back. Guess the kid's aren't getting NIKE's. And by the way, how do you know that I'm not BLACK! Are you saying all black people are for Obama's policies? Boy, are you naive. To bad you weren't at the tea party and maybe you would have had an eye opener. Is there a thing called "reverse racism"? Yeah, your right, the tea parties weren't very well organized. That should prove to you that it isn't this big conspiracy group event. It's just common people getting together for a cause that they believe in. I can't help the tag-a-longs that get thrown in the mix, that happens with any rally, your going to have your extremists. Did you get hit in the head with kickball again or did on one pick you to be on their team? No tatrums, please!

Annie, Annie, WHAT are we to make of is this mess (read carefully, please)?
If you are going to attempt to advance an argument via the written word, wouldn't it be a good idea to learn to write? Is this supposed to convince us liberal elitists that ya'll aren't a bunch of numbskulls?
spelling errors
Ha! I didn't notice that, how funny! I think you get the point if you are the liberal elitists that you say you are. It's ironic, I can admit that I made a mistake, but you can't when it comes to who you voted for. You can have your big government, I choose to want less government. Some people need control over there lives, then they don't have to blame themselves. I choose to put my own pants on and have control over my life. I got off the nipple a long time ago, you little numbskull.

I hear Somalia has less government.
Perhaps you should consider it.

Hey, we have something in common, I'm an entrepreneur also. First two ideas didn't go anywhere, third one is going pretty well. Good luck to yourself. I don't mind being taxed, just not being taxed to death. If there was a fair tax there would be plenty of money to go around, and the tax code wouldn't be the debacle that it is now. Our own polititians can't even get their taxes right, give me a break. Government programs tend to be a waste, they can't get it right because there is to much bureaucracy.(to many contributers they are trying to please) They try to fix them by throwing money at them, thus our taxes get raised and nothing is solved. Let's get back to some common sense people. You can be a genius and still not find your way out of a wet paper sack. There was no lynching in my family, just hard working americans trying to make a way for themselves. Everyone has an ancestor that has been enslaved or killed for the wrong reasons, that's a fact, that's the dark side of the human race.

And here's a quick rewind:
Cost of the Iraq War (one that didn't find WMD or Osama bin Laden): Over $800 billion.
Bush's last budget was an eye-popping $2.77 trillion dollars. That was supplemented last year by a $700 billion appropriation that was cooked up by his Treasury Secretary for a program called TARP. Bush signed it into law.
Anything?

Where was you outrage!
When Bush left office he had a 30% dissaproval rate. So people I know this is hard, but not only were democrats upset with Bush so were republicans and independents, for that number to be possible. Bush did have the highest deficit in eight years, but with Obama that has doubled in just THREE months. This is not change people, it is the same but worse. Get it! That's why people are getting upset. I have one question for you all that disagree. If you were so upset with the Bush administration, why didn't you have your own rallies in the first four years or last eight? Are you upset that you didn't think of it first? You might have been suprised at how many republicans and independents might have shown up with you! This is not a football game about who's team you are on. This is about America's future! Get your head out of your butt or at least settle your internal Bush hatred, it is fogging your judgement about the real problem that this country has, politicians that are Not looking out for us, only their political careers. We are the little people and have been for a long time, do not settle for any less then to hold these politicians to their word.

Annie,
Clearly you don't think government stimulus is the way to attack the current deep recession.
So I'm wondering - how would you attack it, specifically? What policies would you put in place to get the economy moving again? (And don't say tax cuts, because IIRC they were 40% of the stimulus package just passed.)
If you think the stimulus
If you think the stimulus plan is so good, why not double it or triple it? And while we are at it, why not tripple the minimum wage and we could all could get rich! It's just printable money, there is no consequence right?

Sorry Rachel for the
Sorry Rachel for the sarcasm, I was tainted a little by the other respondants that didn't seem to want a decent conversation. Rachel, I believe that the stimulas package is a knee jerk attempt to try to throw a bunch of money at companies and programs that have not run themselves properally and therefore we are all hoping that now that they have more funds coming to them, that they should get it right now. I believe that there should have been no stimulas, at least not one of that size, they should of have had to do what they needed to do bankruptcy, reorganization etc.. Once they heard $, there was no solutions. I don't believe it. There is a bigger picture here that is above us and we and our children and their children will be footing the bills(higher taxes).
Ok, no stimulus $$$. Then
Ok, no stimulus $$$. Then what should the government do about the terrible economy, high unemployment, etc?
Anything?
Rachel, I believe that the
Rachel, I believe that the stimulas package is a knee jerk attempt to try to throw a bunch of money at companies and programs that have not run themselves properally
In other words, you don't know the difference between the stimulus package and the bailouts for the elite banks that gutted most of America's savings and retirement accounts. They are completely different things.
The bailouts you are referring to began under Bush, and they are a response to the trillion-dollar losses bankers caused by gambling with everyone else's money and some dangerous math. When those gambles lost, credit froze, causing some companies to fail. Locally, ImagePoint had to shut down because Wachovia froze their credit line. The gambles were enabled by legislation snuck through Congress by Phil Gramm and exacerbated by lax oversight from the Federal Reserve and the SEC under Bush.
None of the stimulus money is going to failing companies. It is an investment in energy independence and the growing clean-energy economy, something Bush should have done after 9/11 rather than wasting so many billions on mismanaged, privatized wars.
I'll go out on a limb too ...
And show (since words seem to fail) what tea baggers are really about:
How funny is that? White slavery! uh huh. The only thing NOT white at these rallies were the brown shirts.

Guys, do your research
Guys, do your research before you put over a thousand people in the same boat. One of the organizers of the event was a black man who is a member of the oathkeepers organization. Another black man who is a highly respected UT economics professor also gave a speech at the rally in support for the cause. I will give you that info, if you are so inclined to search more for names-do your own research. No
You have a president that believes in kneeling and bowing.
And from now on I will refer to him with a lowercase P for president. It's all he deserves.
Why am I NOT surprised that
Why am I NOT surprised that the establishment types are using Red Herrings to convince others that the reason for the peaceful demonstrations in support of the middle class are really code-speak for racism against Barack? It should tell you that we're winning MANY minds. And when you win minds, you corral fringe types too--such as those with signs seen practicing their free speech occasionally.
Why do you people think the liberal Democrats were able to slither into power in two straight election cycles? It's because the conservative base abandoned the liberal Republicans of the last 8 yrs. Duh! Which conservative was going to show up for McCain and Giuliani? Not me. Not Bush in the second run either. Not Barack, ever. But Presidents are just agenda pushers--they have no real ideas unless they're provided for them.
If anyone believes that this is the Obama Administration Of Change, then how come it looks just like the Clinton Adminstration Part Deux (II)--with the addition of the Bush spending/bailout/surveillance program?
Why am I NOT surprised that

Funny you should bring that up, because every teabagger who has popped up here has treated this online community as if we all think the same and fit perfectly into their stereotypes of liberals. In fact, you did that very thing, branding us "establishment types" who think all teabaggers are racists.
You branded yourself an
You branded yourself an establishment type so you could justify taking offense just to assail my OPINION. Now if you can prove where I said "everyone opposing the tea parties on this community is an establishment type", you'd actually have a point. I won't wait for you to be able to prove that though. If you feel you qualify as my targeted audience, then find some real fault with my statements.
Secondly, prove where I stated that I attended a Tea Party? I passed through a green light while driving past the Greeneville TN Courthouse where a Party was occurring, and heard someone blasting out on a megaphone. I saw one sign that I could read that said RE-LEGALIZE OUR FREEDOMS. I can only assume that message was speaking to the loss of our rights through the surveillance program that the Obama admin is continuing.
Next?
My apologies for assuming
My apologies for assuming you were addressing your targeted audience. Guessing what a teabagger is thinking is clearly risky business since they seem unsure themselves. Who these "establishment types" are can just be your little secret!
The only real fault I find with your statements is you misspelled 'mini' when you wrote "we are winning MANY minds."
What seems most confusing in
What seems most confusing in this whole tea-party strategy is that these people somehow actually believe that an Administration and Congress is obligated to listen to them AFTER their candidates lost the election.
There's another chance in 2012. That's it. Dry your eyes, grow up, and go home.
All k00ks klaim to know the

It's what I'd expected from you. See you next election. Maybe you'll lose some of your bias by then.
Perhaps if some of you non-k00ky folks...
had made your disapproval of those that carried the hand-made signs that I saw at the tea-bagging known to them and asked them to please stay on message and focus with the theme instead of tolerating the blatant bigotry that was on display,
I might take your argument that those people do not represent the views of most of the tea-baggers more seriously.

You have a president that
I believe in that particular sentence 'president' should be spelled with a lower case 'p' anyway.
As to the bow:
Visit us at:
The Home
Bows and hand holds
Holding hands is done between equals. Bowing is done to your superiors.
What a weak reply.
Bowing is done as a courtesy between equals...
and as a sign of respect between people and royalty or between men and women...or have you never been to a square dance where each partner bows or curtsies to the other?
People also bow to an audience to acknowledge the audiences' appreciation of a performance.
Are you seriously saying you prefer to have a President that is rude, crude, and socially unacceptable in his behavior and demeanor? There is nothing wrong with a President showing respect to another world leader by bowing to them...it has been done for hundreds of years. I daresay that George Washington bowed courteously to a mere ambassador from Great Britain after diplomatic relations were restored following the Revolutionary War, even though it was won by us.
Manners never go out of style...well, maybe they do in your case.
