Goody's liquidation confirmed

The report says 9800 employees will be affected. Not sure how many of those are local. I'm guessing a bunch at local headquarters.

UPDATE: KNS: More than 800 Knoxville-area employees will be affected by the closing...

Certain Bad News Did not get reported last year

Clayton Homes and Anderson News both had some fairly significant layoffs/reduction in force last year which escaped the front page of the Knoxville News Sentinel. I'd assume there was a civic coverup as certain entities in our community think Knoxville is recession proof, however, as we are learning in a very difficult manner, we are not and are just as vulnerable, if not more so than other communities, to economic ebbs and flows.

Maybe if we all read to children, Knoxville will be recession proof.
