Kitty VanDuser: a writer of charming essays for the South Knox-Seymour Times

Have you ever spent any time in South Knoxville/Seymour? It is indeed a different kind of place. Those of us who have spent a lot of time South of the river do enjoy proclaiming the differences of SoKno as compared to the rest of Knoxville/Knox County.
Many residents are familiar with the South Knox - Seymour Times newspaper. It is truly a local newspaper with lots of local color. Not being a current resident of SoKno, I don't get the opportunity to pick up a paper. Today I elected to check out the on-line version.
Well, I had many a smile and several chuckles reading the contributions of Kitty VanDuser.
Praise the Lord, and that’ll be $239. She goes to register a car at the Knox County Clerk's office and is a little confused by the bible and religious magazines in the waiting area.
I noticed a table in the waiting area. It held a potted plant, local business coupon books, a daily newspaper, a few magazines, and a Bible. That’s right. A Bible in the waiting area of a local government office. Specifically, a King James Version, occupying the spot of honor, up front and center.
The Free State Of Greater Seymour. If Knoxville/Knox County want to go metro government, then VanDuser supports a South Knox - Succession.
"South Knox Seymour will have its own militia. We might as well recognize it and try to regulate it, because we’re going to have it anyway. We’ve had it for generations.
My grandmother lived in Seymour and I can remember when the nearest traffic light was on Chapman Hwy at Baptist Hospital. I moved to Seymour about five years ago and never regretted the move. We have one of the best Italian restaurants in the area.
A New Yorker opened "The Italian Kitchen" on Boyds Creek in December 2007. None of his meals are precooked at warehouse and delivered frozen. Every meal is his recipe and the food is great. His bread is the only item that is delivered prepared, but it's better than many restaurants serve.
The only real issue is alcohol by the drink, but a group businesses recently won a lawsuit over the beer regulations. I believe the beer board is appealing the ruling but hopefully businesses will win.
It's difficult to determine the population of Seymour, but estimates have been made at 50,000. Seymour is located in Sevier, Blount, and some in Knox consider themselves as Seymour. The census only counts the population in Sevier County and then only a small portion, while the rest is counted as Sevier County.
I'm 10 minutes from Sevierville, 20 minutes from Gay Street, and 20 minutes from downtown Maryville. It's a great place live.
Oh good, we may need that organized militia if this Gary fellow tries to deport us for parking on the grass.

Bizgrrl - thanks for alerting us to this. Ms. VanDuser is a treasure.
