Wow! It makes sense that Jim would want something like this. The Broad Foundation isn't a fan of school boards and local control; it's all about the CEO fetish. But, what I can't understand is why the board would sign on to this.

Any BOE member that signed that agreement can be ousted for cause. That isn't only against their oath but is illegal in Tennessee.

McIntyre should be fired and every school board member who signed that should resign. And then we start over.

This rule was fought by Mike McMillan ... who rightly thought it was an attempt to stifle him. I can see this being set aside, along with the "no recording" at teacher advisory meetings mandate.

And that "no recording" at teacher advisory meetings mandate is clearly against the law based on my reading of Tennessee law. As my dear mama and her eighth grade education would say, Dr. McIntyre needs to get off his high horse.

How much more evidence do we need that this guy is bad news and needs to be replaced as quickly as possible?

Can the fact that he even proposed this be some kind of cause to terminate his contract? Probably not, but it would be nice if that argument could be made. If he gave the education misson HALF the time and energy he spends worrying about his PR and trying to control everyone, the schools would be in much better shape.

new board members, this is as about as backwater, backwoods, and behind the curtain as it gets. This is why I was so adamant that Lynn Fugate needed to go, she's not a representative of the families whose kids are in the schools physically located in the 4th District.

Once again, the government is the enemy, there are no objective free thinking individuals on the Knox County Board of Education, maybe once the new members are sworn in over the weekend, Jimmy Mac will realize he's about to be exposed, worse than anything that Burchette could come up with, and he should for the good of the system, step aside and move on to something else.

If anything, this proves Jim McIntyre is more capable than we give him credit for. You can't blame him for taking the BOE up on this insane deal. Hopefully, now that the BOE members know it isn't legally binding, a lot of them will stand up and not sign it anymore. I am sure that Mrs. Roundtree wont be signing it.

The part about the superintendent reporting to the board, and the school faculty and staff reporting to the superintendent is a good idea, even if it's in a bad document. It would be impossible to coherently run an organization if individual board members were at liberty to wander in and out, making demands and barking orders to anyone and everyone. Teach this. Don't teach that. Give me a report on how eating Elmer's school paste affects participation in the school lunch program. It just wouldn't work.

Right now you've got a chump in the superintendent's office (who apparently really doesn't like to be stumped...), and you've got any number of chumps on the school board.

One day you may have a really great superintendent, but chances are, you'll always have at least one or two chumps on the board. Maybe it's not the best idea to saddle that future great superintendent with chumps on the board who think it's a free-for-all if they want to camp out at their local school and make life difficult for the people who are trying to educate children.

Distracting on so many levels.

First of all, McIntyre is no one's chump.

Second of all, the BOE may be partly filled with self-seekers and weak sisters, none of them can be called chumps.

Knox County Board of Education Chairwoman Lynne Fugate said the agreement isn’t a contract, and was never intended to be.

“Nobody signs anything, nobody gets sanctioned if they decide to go off the reservation,” Fugate said. “I think it’s much ado about nothing. We’ve been operating like this since 2008.”

It is time for every citizen of Knox County to share your thoughts regarding the leadership of Knox County Schools!

Mayor Burchett, widely trusted and respected by the majority of Knox Countians, has voiced his frustration regarding McIntyre 's leadership skills and arrogant attitude in Knox County Schools.

County Commission is very frustrated w the superintenden's ongoing arrogance and lack of being a good steward of the county's money that has been earmarked for education.

Brave teachers have spoken out to the KC BOE,media outlets, and COUNTY COMMISSION regarding the many problems that are internally a huge problem in most of Knox County Schools.

Educators and parents have quietly voiced their lack of trust or respect for McIntyre's poor leadership skills and policies to each other.

Several teachers have been fired with no paper trail to support their destruction of a career they know a lot more about than McIntyre will ever know about educating a child.

The BOE were voted to their position by the citizens of their district to be the CEO / BOSS of the superintendent. Yet , this week we find out of a document that they have all verbally agreed to what was written was to protect the employee they are suppose to be managing. However, we have said all along they just "rubber stamp" whatever he desires ( with one hold out who stays w his convictions, yet , he is rudely treated by the other BOE members for not being a rubber stamper). Thus, the documents uncovered this week prove that the super does control the BOE. McIntyre manages others through fear and intimidation which eventually leads to destruction if not stopped.

Ms. Deatheridge commented at a BOE MEETING in Nov .... That no one " knows what goes on behind close doors with them in their meetings w McIntyre." I think that comment speaks volumes of improprieties that needs to be followed up.

It is widely noted the superintendent puts a spin on everything to his advantage. How inappropriate can one superintendent be in trying to keep a pregnant BOE ELECT from attending orientation so that she can become a qualified and well trained BOE MEMBER. Pregnancy is not a disability!!!!

Dr. McIntyre boasts that he is a Broad Academy graduate which is totally over rated institution and is a totally UNACCREDITED institution for superintendents. And, Knox County pays him about $100,000 more than our city or county mayor. Is he really worth this ? Have we gotten our money's worth from him?

Knox Countians.... Why do you let this go on in our county????? You need to get vocal like so many of the above or you will continue to allow more questionable policies, testing, unfair treatment, spending etc be subjected to our children, human beings, and tax payers . You need to be vocal and let your county commission and school board members know how you feel!!
Get vocal and stop the manipulation! You need to as loud as everyone is at winning UT FOOTBALL GAME to be heard and acknowledged by the present BOE members! They have a hard time hearing the truth so you must be very loud so others can hear you as well. Just like every vote counts ... Every VOICE WILL BE HEARD!
