In looking at the Look Rock web cam (link...), it looks like there may be a fire between the Top of the World community and Rich Mountain. Does anyone have any information on this? I hope the appropriate authorities are aware of the problem.

I think there was supposed

I think there was supposed to be a large controlled burn up there in the Cades Cove area, maybe today? Can't remember where I saw the article, and now I can't google it up...

Controlled burn planned for Cades Cove area today

Authorities plan to conduct a prescribed burn today in an 1,800-acre section of forest north of Cades Cove, according to the National Park Service.

The boundaries are made up of creek drainages and trails including Cooper Road Trail, Beard Cane Trail, and the Hesse Creek/Bark Camp Runs drainage on the north and east sides, the release said.

Sections of the Cooper Road, Cane Creek, Beard Cane, Ace Gap, and Little Bottoms trails will be closed for several days "to ensure that any hazards due to hot spots and dead snags can be taken care of prior to allowing hikers back into this area," the release said.

Officials are conducting the burn to reduce the accumulation of dead wood left by pine beetle infestation and maintain the yellow pine forest.

That was it. Just stepped

That was it.

Just stepped outside, and the smoke is blowing all the way down to Alcoa. Unless there's another fire over here somewhere.
