Unacceptable, but what are

Unacceptable, but what are you going to do.

Checked mine. All seems well, but how do you know for sure. One says Kroger but nothing about manufacturer. It does say alcohol, not methanol. Can it be believed?

It appears there is a lot of fake/bad PPE out there right now.

Methanol Data Sheet

Methanol is a common chemical in many over the counter products. It's also in some antiseptics and nail polish removers. Link to Methanol Safety Data Sheet. (link...)

Ethanol is innocuous,

Ethanol is innocuous, ubiquitous, and cheap. We burn billions of gallons annually in cars. And unlike the intentionally poisonous isopropyl rubbing alcohol we're allowed to buy, ethanol doesn't stink.

But ethanol is heavily licensed, taxed and regulated, thus not available to people who might want to sterilize things with it.

It's too bad we couldn't loosen up on that. I'm not personally a worrier, but lots of people might appreciate having that option.

Ordinary soap works well too. Alcohol and soap both dissolve the virus' lipid encasement ('envelope'). So, soap works, for things you don't mind getting wet.

Pretty sure it's available.

Also, distillers have shifted some production to sanitizer, including nearby moonshine makers.

"Pretty sure it's

"Pretty sure it's available."

Ethyl alcohol is intentionally poisonous (to prevent people from drinking it), and it smells awful.

Secondly, I don't understand the notion that passively waiting while some nameless firms formulate hand sanitizers you've just here criticized for being adulterated, in any way replaces people being able to pay $3 for a gallon of ethanol at the local store and take control of things themselves?

The two options just aren't in the same universe--one's easy safe quick and cheap, and the other is slow, expensive, full of middlemen, and, it seems, risk.
