The new energy bill that raises auto fuel efficiency standards for the first time in more than 30 years was sent to the White House for signature by way of a Toyota Prius.
Some (including the Mrs.) said they should have used an American made Ford Escape Hybrid. Hah. Try to buy one.
And, as the article notes, the Prius and the Honda Civic Hybrid are the only cars currently sold in America that meet the bill's new mileage standards which go into effect in 2020.

tesla and electric
Have you seen the all electric Tesla roadster?
Sweet ride.
Look it up if you haven't seen it.
Body design by Lotus.
Some bad news though. I heard the CEO got replaced this week by an old oil company operative. Hostile takeover and could signal the destruction of a promising company to protect oil company profits.
Also, Stanford announced a new breakthrough in the Li ion battery this week. These are lightweight, massive storage potential, and very quick charge times.
Now to get me lots of solar panels installed with plenty of storage. NanoSolar, a Google sponsored company announced this week a new and inexpensive solar panel with manufacturing facilities being built in California and another to follow in Germany. Hopefully they will ramp up enough so this poor hillbilly can afford lots of them.
Oh, and another thing
That can hardly be called an energy bill.
Absolutely NOTHING for alternative energy sources but lots for oil, coal, and agribusiness corporations.
Better to call it another pork sandwich.

I'd rather be cycling.

That's a good point. But an increase in CAFE is long overdue, and apparently it now takes 60 votes in the Senate to get anything else.
Agreed, new CAFE standards
Agreed, new CAFE standards are way long overdue.
And I wonder how back when the GOP majority got anything done with this 60 votes rule?
Also, I hear a hold from a GOP Senator is inviolate while a hold from a Dem Senator can be totally ignored by Reid. Why is that?
Too late
A little too late for me as I just bought a "new" Frontier. But who am I kidding? Those great numbers won't ake effect for 12 years and by then I'll be ready for another truck. Or we'd have run out of oil altogether and I'll be toting a trailer behind my electric bike. Getting lumber deliveries by horsecart like the old days.
