Boar’s Head Recalls 7 Million More Pounds of Meat Amid Listeria Outbreak. The announcement came less than a week after Boar’s Head recalled more than 200,000 pounds of meat during an outbreak that has killed two and sickened nearly three dozen.
"...the recall covers every item produced at the Virginia facility, a sweeping list of 71 products bearing the Boar’s Head and Old Country brand names produced from May 10 through July 29, the U.S.D.A.’s Food Safety and Inspection Service said."
The list of products includes multipound loaves of “Strassburger Brand Liverwurst MADE IN VIRGINIA” with sell-by dates ranging from July 25 to Aug. 30 and meats made for slicing at delis with an Aug. 10 sell-by date. Some of those meats include: Virginia ham, Italian Cappy Ham, Extra Hot Italian Cappy Ham, Pork & Beef Bologna, Beef Salami, Beef Bologna and Garlic Bologna."
I love going to Publix and ordering a Liverwurst sandwich. They will go get a loaf of Rye if they don't already have one at the deli. So accommodating. Guess I'll have to wait a while.
Publix and Kroger sell Boar's Head deli meat. Not sure what other grocers sell it. Food City does not, or at least our Food City doesn’t.

Speaking of Liverwurst, if you are ever in Florida check out Toojay's Deli, Bakery Restaurant. They have great Liverwurst sandwiches. They have great food.
I've never encountered a deli this good, except maybe in New York. Anyone have good deli recommendations?

It gets worse.
Government inspectors logged 69 instances of “noncompliance” with federal rules in the past year, including several in recent weeks.
Boar's Head is privately owned by what appears the same family that started the company in 1905. Will they survive?
Should it survive?
(in reply to bizgrrl)
This company sold over-priced meat products based on the marketing slogan -- "the mark of high quality." Yet officials ignored inspection reports showing problems, breaking the first rule of business -- "don't kill your customers."
Boar's Head closing the
Boar's Head closing the Virginia plant, at least temporarily. They are permanently discontinuing Liverwurst.
Oh, no! Just not confident they can get it right. Pretty lame.
Jonathan Williams, communications director for the United Food & Commercial Workers Local 400, which represents about 500 workers at the plant, said the plant’s closing was “especially unfortunate” because he believed the outbreak was “not the fault of the work force.”
Hmmmm... Who's fault is it? If it's admin, the workers had to of kept quiet and went along, don't you think?
