UPDATE: As noted by Brian in comments, the bear was captured and will be relocated.

By way of Michael Silence, the KNS reports that a black bear is on the loose at Alcoa's Springbrook Park neighborhood (UPDATE: the KNS story now has photos of the bear). Guess we won't be walking pupster over there (our hot summer evening routine) until they catch the bear.

UPDATE: The bear, believed to be a 150 lb. cub, came out of the woods and across Springbrook Road at the Duck Pond where it was spotted by some people fishing and a man riding his bicycle. Alcoa Police tasered the bear in an unsuccessful attempt to subdue it. TWRA shot the bear with a tranquilizer dart. The bear went back across the road and up into the woods, where authorities say it will sleep off the tranquilizer. They have set traps in hopes of catching it so it can be relocated. Here are some photos from the scene (click for larger view):

Bear taser?

I'm sure it was a noble effort to not injure the animal, but what did the Alcoa PD really hope to accomplish by tasering the bear?

What was "step two" of that plan? Slap the cuffs on him, shove him in the back of a cruiser, and drag his ass downtown and put him in the cell next to Otis?

Hahaha. Good question. I wondered the same thing myself, but didn't ask for fear of, you know, tasers and handcuffs.

That’s a vivid word picture you paint, Stick Thrower.  I don’t know anything about the Alcoa PD, but that tells me a lot.

Springbrook greenway?

We were coming over for a bike ride later this afternoon? I don't suppose they've closed the area or anything have they?

No, nothing's closed. The

No, nothing's closed. The area where the bear went off to is in the woods across from the duck pond just before the bridge where the greenway loops around towards towards Hall Rd., across the pond from Alcoa Elementary. So watch out, he might be waking up and pissed off.

He's going to wake up with a hangover. He will be searching for a warm beer, a cigarette and a few aspirin. Do not make any loud noises.

You know what's funny?

I meant to come here, but typed in "" instead, saw the bear story, linked to it from my blog, and then came here and saw the link to Based on that sample size of one, I'd say is driving traffic to :-)

Hey, Les, why don't we just call each other assholes and get it over with. - Somebody on the old (if that was you, claim your quote and win net.fame!)
