As some of us may remember, but which has also been glaringly absent from the current discussion, the GOP controlled congress was responsible for the government shutdown in 1995. That shutdown, orchestrated by Newt Gingrich, was also about the GOP trying to take the opportunity to cut social services to the people.

Fast forward to 2011. The GOP/Tea Party orchestrated government shutdown is NOT about cutting spending responsibly, once again, it is about cutting spending to those who 1. need the help the most; and 2. destroying the help the GOP abhors the most; namely Planned Parenthood.

Okay, here's the thing. Dems have capitulated to the authoritarian GOP/TP in just about every discussion related to the budget, and the looming shut down, but the GOP/TP keeps moving the goalpost.

A few hours later, Reid said Democrats kept offering concessions, and Republicans rejected them.

"We meet them halfway, they say no. We meet them more than halfway, they still say no. We meet them all the way, they still say no. If Republicans were really worried about keeping the government running, all they would have to do is say yes."

So, when I read the latest in today's KNS, Rep. Roe's lament that he and the reThugs don't want a government shutdown, I call bullshit on that!

But, once again, this looming shutdown is not being adequately reported. Some "slips of the tongues" by those that feel they are Large and In Charge shows a completely different picture. It is about defunding the government, entirely.

What is also being missed in the telling of the looming shut-down is that a shut-down will cause more deficits, cut what economic gains we have made from this last recession (caused by greedy Wall Street and GOP deregulation) among other things.

So the only thing left to ask is, Why does the GOP/TP HATE America?

Why do they hate Nature? Is it because Mother Earth is a woman? Do they hate their mothers, too? How about their daughters, granddaughters, sisters, and nieces?

Overall, why do they hate SO much? Their innards are going to get all chewed up from it like maggots on a dead carcass.

What I also find ironic is that the stock markets are jittery this morning on fears of a shutdown. Big Business is worried it will affect the economy.

I thought government was the only thing holding business back? Seems like this would be a good thing and stock prices would be soaring.

According to the news, the latest round of hostage-taking on the part of the GOP involves the question of Planned Parenthood funding.

The brinksmanship here would be funny if it weren't so pathetic.
