HELD CAPTIVE BY UNITED AIRLINES IN CHICAGO

Long story short, we spent in excess of 5 hours in delays in Chicago. When we arrived at Newark, it had taken us a total of 12 hours to fly from Knoxville to New York. Google says it is 751 miles from my house to 226 W. 52nd Street in New York City (Hotel Novotel Times Square), about 12 hours and 9 minutes!

For our business travel, if it's within a 500 mile radius it's usually cheaper and faster to drive. For vacation travel, we love us a road trip, and practically no U.S. destination is too far to drive. (Except maybe Hawaii. But I knew a guy in FL who drove to Alaska for a vacation. That's some serious road tripping.)

Do you know where your luggage is? For some on a flight out of Chicago's Midway airport their luggage took a different route.

The duffel bag remains missing since being swept out of the cargo hold of a Delta Connection plane during a pressurization problem that forced the jet to return to Midway, according to the Federal Aviation Administration, which is investigating the incident.

...
some passengers began to panic and that about 20 minutes passed before the flight's captain announced that a sensor in the cockpit was indicating a pressurization problem.

One bag was found a mile from the airport in a rail yard.

I remember a similar problem with an airplane door when I was changing flights at some airport, not Midway (never flown out of Midway). The pilots were concerned and reviewing the problem. Overhearing the pilots discussion, I decided to change flights, but I didn't have to since the pilots demanded and received another plane.

400 flights canceled at Chicago O'Hare. 200 flights canceled at Dallas Fort-Worth. Other Midwest airports canceling flights and trying to keep up with heavy snowfall. Not a good day for travelers trying to get home.
