It's been a long time coming, and the road has been rocky, but Tesla production car #1 has been delivered to company chairman Elon Musk. Photos at link to Treehugger.

There's still a long journey ahead for Telsa to become successful and toward making plug-in electric vehicles practical, but this is a major milestone. Congratulations to Tesla and to its former employees who helped realize this achievement!

In today's (1/18) Toronto Star website, there's a remarkable video called 'Airsick'. It's remarkable both technically (it consists entirely of still photos--20,000 of them) and remarkable in terms of the message it brings. Does any reader know anything about Earth Hour? This is the first I have heard of it.

Global warming will undoubtedly bring many new diseases because amobeas thrive in heat, a this somewhat alarming spike in the brain-eating Naegleria fowleri has some scientists worried. So far all the states that have reported deaths from the bug are warm ones. It makes you think if the climate does change here, Tennesseeans might someday all be wearing nose plugs when we bounce into our many lakes and rivers. It doesn't say if fish are susceptable, but then again do fish have nostrils?

"Though infections tend to be found in Southern states, Naegleria lives almost everywhere in lakes, hot springs, even dirty swimming pools, grazing off algae and bacteria in the sediment.

Beach said people become infected when they wade through shallow water and stir up the bottom. If someone allows water to shoot up the nose — say, by doing a somersault in chest-deep water — the amoeba can latch onto the olfactory nerve.

The amoeba destroys tissue as it makes its way up into the brain, where it continues the damage, “basically feeding on the brain cells,” Beach said."

From the recent North American summit, regarding the Northwest Passage:

Prime Minister Harper: "Canada's position is that we intend to strengthen our sovereignty in the Arctic area ... Canada and the U.S. do have differences on certain aspects of the Northwest Passage."

President Bush: "We believe it's an international passageway."

Why does anybody care? Because Global Warming is yielding unexpected benefits.

Newsweek has an in-depth look at who's behind the global warming denial movement. Basically, Republicans and others not capable of critical thought are being manipulated by a massive industry funded propaganda campaign.
