Take a look inside an RNC focus group interview:

(OK, not really. But listening to all the controversy over the jungle drums and coded messages reminded me of this classic SNL sketch.)

I didn't even have to click on the video and I was laughing just seeing Richard Pryor's face. Gosh that was a funny bit. Wish he was still with us.

Be a blessing to someone today.

SNL used to take risks. And they were funny and fairly truthful when they did.

To this day, the most shocking thing I ever saw on TV invlolved Richard Pryor and Chris Rock. Pryor was receiving the Mark Twain Award. It was an hour long show. Everybody kept wondering what Mark Twain and Richard Pryor would say to, each other if they could have met. Chris Rock gets up there and says:

"What would Mark Twain say to Richard Pryor if they met? He would probably say 'N!$$#&, get the bags.'"

There was complete silence. If nothing else, just because of the time Mark TWain lived, Rock may have been correct. I also knew right then that Rock was the only comic who might carry one where Pryor left off.

SNL used to take risks. And they were funny and fairly truthful when they did.

I read a book about SNL, and they talked some about this skit. Michael O'Donoghue wrote it (as he did many of the more edgy and weird pieces), and Chase was genuinely not sure about delivering the n-word to Pryor. You can see it in this sketch. He really, really hesitates before pitching it.

Not all of Pryor's response was fake, either, according to the book.

Rock was the only comic who might carry one where Pryor left off.

You could also argue for Dave Chappelle.
