Barack Obama in a Q&A session before the Economic Club of Chicago,
The danger is "grow(ing) complacent," Obama said. "We have to tend to this garden of democracy or else things could fall apart quickly."
That's what happened in Germany in the 1930s, which despite the democracy of the Weimar Republic and centuries of high-level cultural and scientific achievements, Adolph Hitler rose to dominate, Obama noted. "Sixty million people died. . . .So, you've got to pay attention. And vote."
I am paying attention and I'm exhausted. I can hardly listen to or watch CNN or MSNBC. Trump and his cabinet are driving me crazy.
Maybe Bredesen jumping into the Senate race is a sign of how important it is right now to not be complacent.

Thank you President Obama for being blunt. Democracy is fragile. A free press is critical. The United States is losing its good reputation for being a force for good in the world. (And Bredesen isn't the answer.)
What an idiotic statement.
What an idiotic statement. "Bredesen isn't the answer"? Really? Well, if your point is that Phil Bredesen in the Senate all by his lonesome self cannot completely and magically change the dangerous course that America finds itself taking, then I guess you are right to a degree.
If you are trying to suggest that we just ought not try to win in Tennessee, then I will tell you that you are wrong. And if you are trying to say that Phil Bredesen, the only Democrat to win statewide in this state since 1990, just isn't pure enough for your sensibilities, so you would just as soon have Marsha Blackburn, then I will tell you that you are totally nuts. Like one of those Russia-duped Bernie-bots who helped make Donald Trump president.
I would just love to see Phil Bredesen in the Senate giving the Democrats a majority. Looking at the election map, if Democrats get a majority, it may be by just one vote. And Phil Bredesen could be that one seat majority. And if that's the case, then, yes, Phil Bredesen IS "the answer."
good lord
You folks are a riot. Maybe you should work on how you're going to combat regular GDP #s of >3% with stories of Russians and Hitler. It sure would have been nice if Democrats had given a damn about Russia from 1917 until last summer.
