I'm thankful for family and friends and those who serve and for each new day, plus some other random things in no particular order:

Sharp kitchen knives, GPS, a wife with a green thumb, the beach, peaceful transition of power, Tivo, ice dispensers, National Parks, dogs, rural electrification, room service, spam filters, sunsets, zippers, biscuits and gravy, Social Security and Medicare, book stores, XM Radio, down comforters, curbside recycling, 42 cent stamps, public education, local parks, Pizza Palace, rivers, Google, tires that last 50,000 miles, unattended backups, fresh herbs, warm gloves.

What is there to be thankful for?

My early-out retirement offer from the US Postal Service, effective 12/31/2008. And most of that other stuff Randy mentioned, although I still haven't sampled GPS, Tivo, or XM Radio, and my wife could kill an artificial houseplant. But she has lots of other good qualities, so I'll overlook that and be very thankful for her.

And NPR...WDVX.com...FolkAlley.com.

Oh yeah hot water!

After spending most of my early youth living on a boat with a head (that's a bathroom to landlubbers) the size of a postage stamp and only a small trickle of cold water flowing through the spigots. I am EVERY SINGLE DAY grateful for such things as hot water, toilets that work, and bath tubs. Nice white deep bathtubs that you can fill with delicious HT WATER, that steams up the mirrors so bad you can't see your wrinkles even, and for the time to loll around in one.

Cold water is an abomination unless you are drinking it straight from a deep well or clean babbling brook. It should never touch any part of your body that lies beyond your lips. Hot water is something way too many people take for granted these days. It wasn't too long ago that running water was a luxury. Anyone who has had to lug water to their abode, heat huge cauldrons of it on a wood stove to give your babies a Saturday night bath, knows what I am taking about.

Yeah, Thanksgiving time and hot water! Thanks so much for reminding me about this Talidapali. That one is really important! I am VERYT grateful for hot water.

LOL

My reasons are purely selfish...since I have lost my "fat" parka I get cold ALL the time. I may freeze solid if this winter turns out to be long and colder than last year. The only way I can get warm is to get in a hot shower...I mean really hot! So yeah...I'm especially thankful for hot water.

It is the best.

Yes, been to Metro. Very similar and very good, but just not quite the same. Plus, they don't deliver cold beer curbside, ordered over 1950s telephones!

(They went downhill a little I thought after Sal sold it, but last time I was there he was back in the kitchen and things had improved. Haven't been in a while.)

  • A church that affirms my sexuality, not condemns it
  • A job that I actually enjoy (most days, though today is something of an exception) and pays me well
  • my Macbook Pro
  • that I can play World of Warcraft on said Macbook Pro
  • NPR's This American Life and Wait Wait Don't Tell Me
  • my Prius that will allow me to drive to Knoxville from Maryland for under $20 worth of gas
  • a family full of good cooks (especially on Thanksgiving)
  • Weight Watchers

Y'all covered 'bout everything!

But I want to be considering and especially thankful for everything that I've had and/or enjoyed and did absolutely nothing to deserve or earn. Lots of little things that I always take for granted.

Life - I'm really thankful for that.

Good Books - Don't know what I'd do without 'em, I'm addicted!
