Breaking Knox County election news

As if there wasn't enough drama already, WBIR is reporting [1] that Knox County Election officials are unable to access voting records from electronic voting machines for tabulation due to a technical/computer problem. They are working with the manufacturer's technical people, and hope to get it resolved soon, and reassured voters that all the data is there, they just can't transfer it for tabulation. There is apparently a backup procedure involving manual transcription of the votes if necessary, but that could apparently cause delays of up to several days. UPDATE: WATE files this report [2] quoting election officials as saying the problem could be resolved in a matter of minutes or that it may take hours. They also reported that paper ballots total about 25% of the overall votes cast, running as high as 50% in some West Knox precincts. UPDATE: The Knoxville News Sentinel has ongoing updates [3], and some results starting to come in from surrounding counties. UPDATE: WBIR is reporting as of 10:26 [4] that the software problem is resolved and results should be available soon. (I thought they weren't going to report any precinct until the paper ballots for that precinct had been counted, too?)
