Democrats got something done on energy [1] yesterday. They passed a bill that will encourage alternative energy sources while placating the "drill babies [2]." The oil companies most likely will not actually drill on the areas opened for drilling, but if they do they will be contributing to the development of alternative energy sources such as geothermal, wind, and solar. Yet the obstructionist Republican'ts in the Senate are threatening to block action on the bill, and Bush issued a veto threat [3].

Why?

Because they don't want anything done on energy. The Republican't Party just wants the "drill baby" mantra to attack Democrats. When they are offered a real bipartisan solution they oppose it.

This was a smart move by the Democratic Congress. Hopefully similar legislation will pass in the Senate.
