Barack Obama has the temerity to accept the nomination on a set with Greek columns. The usual suspects are in a total froth over this one. Let's see: Barack Obama emulates the architectural style of the entire capital of this nation, doing exactly the same thing as Bush, and this is a scandal? Conservative, please. You are the folks on whose watch the architectural tragedy that is the World War Two Memorial was foisted on Washington, DC*, and you all are going to split hairs over a a set at a convention in which you technically do not have a fight? Stupid.
In honor of your stupidity and your desire to not tear down walls, but columns, I offer you a tribute to Ray Harryhausen.
*It is easily the most demeaning, in the true sense of the word, memorial in the capital. It has had all meaning stripped from it.

I hear Obama will be wearing
I hear Obama will be wearing a laurel head wreath during his acceptance speech tonight.
Brian A.
I'd rather be cycling.
Good thing he didn't
Good thing he didn't. It would have looked really out of place in front of all those divided light panels.
(Not really seeing the Greek temple theme, but I sure am feeling that speech. Wow.)
I like Barack Obama
However, I do hope he doesn't show up tonight in a toga.
He hasn't the legs for it.

To-ga! To-ga! To-ga!
P.S. Is this all the Rs have to talk about?
yes
Is this all the Rs have to talk about?
Let's see: bank bailouts, falling dollar, endless war, about a dozen stalled investigations, missing billions, cronyism, massive debt. Yes, I think the Democrats are the only safe topic.
The WWII Memorial is both
The WWII Memorial is both meaningful and moving. Not sure what your problem is, but "demeaning" is not the sense that I felt while visiting it just a few weeks ago.

It's shambolic. That has nothing to do with the WWII veterans and their unimaginable sacrifices and everything to do with bad taste in architecture.

It's shambolic. That has nothing to do with the WWII veterans and their unimaginable sacrifices and everything to do with bad taste in architecture.
Why don't you admit it, you'd rather see no monument for the sacrifices made in WWII ? Or, would you argue that taste in architecture is a higher priority ?
The remaining veterans who have had the chance to see it, appreciate it, but then I guess in all your educated wisdom, you know what is better for them than they do.
Apparently, you've learned a lot about being disingenuous from your Republican foes that you're so quick to accuse.
The trap
And that's the little trap I've set. You see, symbolism is important or "correct" when it fits certain ideological needs, otherwise it is something to be derided. Now which is more important the freedom that WWII veterans protected, to follow the narrative as received, or 56 stone plinths with laurel wreaths? What do those 56 plinths even represent? Personally, I prefer the photo of my grandpa kissing his wife when he returned from fighting in the Pacific with the Marines....
Thanks for playing.

Remember all the
Remember all the conservatives who derided Maya Lin's Vietnam memorial? Were they saying then that they would rather have seen no monument for the sacrifices Vietnam vets had made? Be consistent.
The conservatives didn't like what they perceived to be the symbolism of the Vietnam memorial, but the public loves it.
