Weird response to McCain by veterans

I can't believe the weak response John McCain is getting as he addresses the National Convention of Veterans of Foriegn Wars today. Either there are only about ten people in the audience or they simply lack interest in John McCain's talking-point lecture today. It's pathetic really. He keeps flashing the obligatory sh**t-eating grin after every line he thinks will get a great reponse--but nothing happens. I wonder if these orchestrated pauses and grins are scripted into the notes he is reading? The part of his speech that tried to create a spike of fear about Russia equal to the Cold War went over like a gas bubble in a space suit. I have heard more of the military is going to vote for Obama, but I never realized how tepid McCain's support was in that area. I can't help but think his brilliant idea to use the Russian incursion into Georgia to boost his ratings as a die-hard war hawk is backfiring. This speech anyway sounded and looked like a huge bust.

I'm glad we have a pollster in our midst who can calculate levels of support by watching speeches on TV:

I never realized how tepid McCain's support was in that area.

Dream on Carole. I'm sure Obama will win the ACLU vote though.

This shows us what Conservatives really stand for. They denigrate an organization that has the stated mission of defending the Constitution of the United States of America.

The only power the ACLU has is the power of public opinion and the ability to ask the referees to refer to the rule book. Somehow that is bad from the conservative viewpoint, and we're back to the old question...

Service members overseas are donating to the Obama campaign at a rate of approximately six times that of McCain donations.

Ron Paul even beat him by four to one.

The McCain camp says the real patriots are too busy fighting to make political donations.

Now the brass just love him, it's the little people who have a problem. Maybe they have too much disposable income.

That wasn't any kind of analysis or ESP swami-sitting-over-a-crystal ball guess. I was shocked to hear the weak clapping. Perhaps that meant something positive that I missed? I wasn't aware that the troops were contributing so heavily to the Obama campaign, but it doesn't surprise me. They've undoubtedly seen many friends die in a war that was based on lies. I'm sure they're not eager to jump into formation behind Bush's sucessor and hearty supporter. Some may have forgotten McCain's gushing over Bush, but I haven't. Many thanks to our troops and please save them from yet another fiasco under a John McCain hawk regime.

They denigrate an organization that has the stated mission of defending the Constitution of the United States of America.

I saw a documentary years ago about the ACLU. One thing they mentioned is that, left or right, straight or gay, and regardless of your ethnicity, the ACLU has at one time or other championed a cause that you have embraced as well as a cause that you despised.

They are not trying to win a popularity contest.

I hereby admit and confess that in a weak moment I fed the troll due to a response defending one of our respectable members.

I will in the future try harder to ignore the troll also known as PissCup (in honor of how he loves to mangle others names) and not respond to his tired old wingnut talking points that he gets from hate radio while chasing little white balls around with an expensive stick and pretending to be something he can never be.

This was my quote. How is this denigrating the ACLU? I'm not a card carrying member but I don't think I've denigrated them.

I believe most card carrying members and lawyers for the ACLU will vote for Obama. I'm also quite sure that McCain will win the military vote, just like GW did overwhelmingly both times.

And that was quite an outburst from you two, Gonzobean and Redmonkey.

Your language itself betrays you sPitCup and you definitely are full of **it.
As in the "card carrying member of the ACLU" which came from Poppy Bush trying to attack his political opponent and translates loosely to "soft on crime" or "bleeding heart liberal" depending on context. The phrase has been used as code for years and guess what? Everyone knows what it "means", except for you of course, seeing as how an over-the-hill wannabe golfer only gets Rush radio out on the course swilling Pabst and cussing liberals.

P.S. Gonzo, I'm quite sure it was Mikey Dukakis who bragged about being a "card carrying" member of the ACLU. What's wrong with that? It's been pointed out in this very string how wonderful that organization is.

And, Gonzo, what right wing talking points? I said that Obama will win the ACLU vote. How is that a talking point? It's not a debatable fact just like he'll win the black vote.

BTW, my golf game is pretty good.

Now a recipe, sort of:

I have a cousin in Morgan County who once killed and dressed a rattlesnake. He grilled some of it and put the rest in his freezer. He said what I had heard in other places, that it tasted pretty much like chicken.

His wife threatened to divorce him if he didn't get the damned thing out of her freezer.

They're still married so I guess he did.

I'm sorry, Gonzone. I should have asked if you were OK after that tongue lashing we took and let you know that I spoke with Nurse Amy here at The Home. She suggested that the best remedy for troll bites is a double Bombay Sapphire and tonic.

Mine is working already.

If you still have trouble sleeping tonight she recommended half a baby aspirin.
