• Sandra Clark on Randy Tyree's blog, changes at the Knox Dem HQ, and an urgent notice that there will be no cake auction at the Concord Farragut Republican Club meeting.
P.S. Speaking of Randy Tyree's blog, Georgiana Vines also mentioned it last week and quoted J.J. Jones as saying he would not have a blog because "There's too much anonymity with blogging. It means absolutely nothing." Apparently he's not clear on the concept. Randy Tyree explains it for him.
(That same article also mentioned the grand opening of Obama's downtown K-town headquarters. They don't have electricity, so folks are asked to visit during daylight hours.)

Sandra's story
The Knox County Democratic Party HQ off of Broadway grand opening is Sat according to the Party website.
I have not eyeballed the Party Treasure's report on the funds raised by the Truman Day event but I've heard it's a little short of 25K.I want to make it clear this only what I have heard..I dont know for sure.
I'm really not sure what Sandra means by "The money will be next."
I've known Sylvia for years & she's a very straight up,honest person.
I don't why all this stuff is getting out there but it dont seam right to me.
Yea, that story was more
Yea, that story was more than a little unfair to Sylvia. Especially the comparison to Hornback. Nobody deserves that comparison.
A little short of $25K? That doesn't begin to cover it.
New face in Knox County Clerk race
Michael Paseur has announced his availability to serve as a write-in option for Knox County Clerk. Article here:

Candidate's profile here:

I'll also stick this on the County Clerk disclosure thread, just in case. Mr. Neal, thank you for the name for the forum on Thursday! "Forum in the Fort" is about as perfect as it gets, and if you don't mind, that's what it's being called. We'll make sure to give you your proper due at the forum. :-)
Write-in
TCA 2-7-133
(i) Any person attempting to be elected by write-in ballots shall complete a notice requesting such person's ballots be counted in each county of the district no later than fifty (50) days before the general election. Such person shall only have votes counted in counties where such notice was completed and timely filed. The notice shall be on a form prescribed by the coordinator of elections and shall not require signatures of any person other than the write-in candidate requesting ballots be counted. The coordinator of elections shall distribute such form to the county election commissions. Upon timely receiving the notice required by this subsection (i), the county election commission shall promptly inform the state coordinator of elections, the registry of election finance, as well as all other candidates participating in the affected election.
Despite my best efforts...
...I've learned something new. Thanks! :-)
Late notice I know, but
Late notice I know, but there's a countywide candidate forum today (Tuesday) at lunch at the Halls Senior Center. Gene Patterson is moderating.
Knoxville Voice's Lisa Slade
Knoxville Voice's Lisa Slade is in the midst of a two-part series on the Knox County Commission candidates. The July 10 issue featured the Democratic and Independent candidates and our July 24 issue will feature the Republican candidates:

Sandra's story II
I'm sure Ms.Clark has a valid reason for not responding to the misinformation reported in The Shopper this week concerning the Knox County Democratic Headquaters, funds raised @ the Truman Day dinner & the odd statement "the money is next.".I also believe this post should be updated to clarify there has not been "changes at the Dem HQ."
I do not know if Ms.Clark has talked to the Treasurer concerning the matter of funds.I know Ms.Clark has not talked to the Chair concerning these matters.
I respect Ms.Clark & know that this thread not being updated is an oversight.
Like Hannah Montana says "Everybody makes mistakes"
So in my opinion Ms.Clark got misinformation from someone & made a mistake by printing it.
Even if Ms.Clarke chooses not to say she's sorry
Ms.Clark is forgiven.
Bill, apologies if you were
Bill, apologies if you were offended by the offhand remark. I was mainly bringing attention to the Tyree blog remarks, along with a brief summary of what else was in the column (including the urgent notice re. the bake sale).
I don't think there's a problem with saying "changes at the Dem HQ." There's a new party chair, and a new HQ. Those are pretty big changes.
I agree with you, though, that the snarky and unattributed remarks about the "money being next" were inappropriate. And comparing the new Dem party chair to Hornback was way out of bounds. I'm sure it was meant as a joke, but it unfairly plants a seed of doubt. Sandra should issue a statement clarifying it, or if she has information about the Dem party's finances she should share it.
And if you or Sylvia Woods or Lee Hutchison would like to report on the Dem party's finances or make an official statement in rebuttal, my email is rneal@rviews.com and I will be happy to post about it.
Carry on...
OK
Something went sideways about the Republican HQ when Hornback took over.I didn't understand how The Shopper story was connecting the dots between the Republican dust-up to the misinformation that the Democratic HQ was moved to a Union Hall.
The Democratic HQ off of Broadway was rented a long time ago & when Sylivia became shair she spoke @ club meetings about opening it up & it will this Sat.
I've not seen the report so I'm not going comment except to say the Truman Day funds are short of 25K.
I'll pass your offer along to Sylvia but when I talked to her Tuesday she's putting it behind her & organizing for victory in the county elections.
And now in tangentially related news...
County Commission is going to have a message board available to them starting tomorrow. All messages will be accessible by the public and retained for one year. Now everybody on earth can see Scoobyisms and Pinky-Grammar preserved in all their digital glory.
