The exhibition of Lilly Martin Spencer Women’s Work closes Sunday at the Hunter Museum of American Art in Chattanooga. Spencer was one of the few women in 19th century America who earned her living as an artist. Today scholars of American art study her paintings to learn more about the dynamics of domestic life in the mid 19th century.
