Nice to see that the same folks who brought you the Harold Ford, Jr. Mandingo ads are being used to beat up on a guy's wife. I guess articulating that Obama is a stealth Muslim, a socialist, an Al Qaeda Manchurian Candidate, or just the Antichrist is getting too hard for the GOP, so when the going gets tough just use the Mindless Minions of Mental Midgets called the TN GOP to do the work. They are cheap and it comes naturally to them.
Will our conservative posters repudiate this ad or will they just call it "politics" or spend a couple of hours dissembling along the "Democrats do it too" or "That's not what the ad says" narratives? I hold out no hope.

I think we should be proud of the Tennessee Democratic Party for not responding with attacks of their own. Cindy McCain has publicly admitted to felony drug possession, felony theft, and addiction, but no way will we ever mention that, Or the shameful way she had an affair with John while his wife was painfully recovering from serious and debilitating injury...No Way.
You just built a crawlspace under your all-time low with that one. By posting that, you give the GOP zombies something to respond to other than my call for repudiation. Nice job.

Back off a bit, M.
How about seeing it as noting that if the GOP wants to play their usual game of driving the other candidate's negatives, they don't have the advantage of either the high ground or the ammunition.
This is typical Rovian tactic at play.
They certainly have to realize that Cindy McCain is a huge negative and are forced to attack Michelle Obama in the only way they can. They take a perfectly rational statement that could have been better phrased and whip it to death, while going all holier than thou.
So you want to go negative for negative against the GOP? Right. Be prepared to be completely shocked to see what they pull when Obama gets the nomination. Wait for it. They can't help themselves. Anyhow calling a rich white person a cokehead has little effect on matters. See George W. Bush.

Never said "go negative" or anything whatsoever about calling someone a cokehead. Cindy McCain stole, abused, and was addicted to prescription drugs, not cocaine that I have ever heard. She received pretrial diversion and that seems to have ended it.
What I would point out is that the opportunity is there for a quiet but firm message to be sent to the enemy.
Addiction is a disease. Do you make fun of people with cleft palates, club feet or cancer? Or are you buying into the "personal responsibility" drool of the Right?
If Cindy McCain had cancer, would you make issue of that?
Enemy: As much as I disagree with people, they are not enemies. That's dangerous language. I guess this is where the less thoughtful are headed. It's not unlike the Weimar Republic...

In spite of Obama's desire not to swill in the muck, Cindy's McCain's past is just too juicy for the media to ignore. How can anyone become first lady with only a blank slate for history? The fact that the McCain campaign and its surrogates felt it was okay to attack Michelle will just serve to fuel an examination of other wives. Cindy McCain has done some good things, but her arrogance when it comes to privilege is simply not going to fly.

No. It won't.

I suppose I would be considered a "conservative poster" here, although I don't typically post on political subjects to this forum. After reading about the ad on CNN, I would call it politics as usual. Unfortunately, negative campaign ads work. There will be a cadre of voters who avoid Obama specifically because of this particular ad.
As for a repudiation, sure... I'll repudiate it. It's silly, and dumb, and so are 99% of campaign ads, which is why I seldom watch them. If these ads accomplish one thing, it is to make me wish that the campaign season would end, sooner before later.
Politics? So exactly what does his wife have to do with his foreign policy? Or his views on education? Or? Or? You are right to call it dumb and it makes Tennesseeans look like crackers yet again.

The twin points of reference for a political campaign should be the real and the important.
What we have here is nothing short of clowning.
Hobbs should wear a big red nose, a fright wig made of yellow yarn, a codpiece in the shape of a pig in heat, and a set of floppy shoes to work. That would be the most honest self-portrayal I can imagine. [slide whistle] Hey, kids! Yuk! Yuk! Yuk! Check out this howler! [honk honk] [flings bucket of confetti on the front row] [boing!]" That's the level of respect with which he addresses his audience. It's the level of respect that he should be accorded in return, however... every time this stuff hits the big time, the more his star rises. Young Rove is nothing if not persistent. Shamelessly dishonest, yes. Insanely desperate for attention during a grinding apprenticeship in the backwaters of national politics. But persistent.
Albeit funny that Hobbs is somehow laboring under the mis-impression that Obama is going to consider Tennessee a battleground, it's even "funnier" (if that's the word that I want) that these pressers are "sneaking" their way into the national discourse. Slime. Repudiate. Repeat.
This is the tenor of the campaign to come.

He's a throw back to the old school Republicans.
Main Street not whack wing.
Utterly, demonstrably false.
a) Remember Chuck Keating?
b) McCain was a more reliable vote for Bush from 2001 - 2004 than Sam Brownback or Rick Santorum. He was only out-wingnutted by Sununu and Kyl.
c) The extent to which Democrats parrot the line that McCain is a "main street" conservative, the more votes Democrats will lose to McCain. That "maverick" and "straight talk" branding is just that - a marketing campaign. Bush needs to hang around McCain's neck like a dead albatross.
We don't need to be giving McCain a pass on his loyalty to the Republican brand by claiming he's a moderate. No way. He's against Roe v. Wade, he's all about belligerence in the Middle East, he ate cake with Bush as New Orleans drowned, he's reversed himself on the question of torture (he's for it now), he's flopped on the religious conservatives (he's for them now), he's a rubber stamp for the gun lobby... McCain is an ideological conservative and he'll govern exactly as Bush has governed. It will be the 3rd consecutive neo-con administration if he wins.

Chelsea is a class act.
