KNOXVILLE, Tenn.—WDVX won Bluegrass Radio Station of the Year and morning personality Freddy Smith received the Bluegrass DJ of the Year award at the 34th Annual Society for the Preservation of Bluegrass Music of America (SPBGMA) Bluegrass Awards held Sunday, February 3, 2008, during their National Convention in Nashville.
“I am delighted to accept this award for Bluegrass Radio Station of the Year,” said Tony Lawson, WDVX General Manager. “We owe this honor to our loyal listeners and supporters around the world.”
WDVX has received this award four times in the past six years. This is Smith’s second nomination and second win.

Gotta feed them chickens
I love Freddy Smith. He's part of what makes WDVX so eclectic. Smith is a deeply religious guy and infuses that into his broadcasts. But that never overwhelms the station as a whole, as many other broadcasters are cut from a pretty different cloth when it comes to religion. It's really such a joy to be to have WDVX around here.
Phil Leadbetter and Grasstowne too!
Also, Knoxville native, Phil Leadbetter took home the Dobro Player of the Year, and his band Grasstowne won Album of the Year for their "The Road Headin' Home" album.
WDVX is well deserving of this award too, they are the best!
btw...you accidentally listed the awards as being held in 2007 instead of 2008...
sorry, I see it was wrong in the press release as well
Oh well.
