It is a stupid plan with dubious immediate benefits. Now is probably a great time to work out a way to create/expand/enhance alternative energy industry. It would be a slower sort of effect but would strengthen the economic foundation of the nation in the long run. Bush's plan is the political fix. It amounts to another tax gift to Wally world and will do nothing for the nation in the long run.

I can sorta deal with Bush being an idiot, it is useless to be mad at a dog for biting or a snake for striking, that is just what they do. But Bush's advisers surely can't all be as clueless as he is, can they? Does he give them a test that they have to fail to work at the WH?

I wish this was happening in a country I didn't like so that I could at least be amused by it.

President Jimmy Carter

President Jimmy Carter funded all kinds of research and development (R&D) on alternative energy sources like liquid coal liquification, gasification, wind power, solar power, geothermal power, ect., only to have every damn one of them cancelled when Reagan became president. Due to big oil politics we've lost approximately 30 years of R&D toward becoming energy independent.

I like election years. We get us some economic stimulus, and maybe even a check in the mail from the government!

Egad...

Bush has gone down the tax rebate road before. Back in 2001, he added refunds of up to $300 per individual and $600 per household as a recession-fighting element of the tax cut plan that had been the centerpiece of his 2000 campaign.

Economists said a reasonable range for tax cuts in the new package might be $500 to $1,000. Congressional aides said the White House plan is looking at rebates of up to $800 for individuals and $1,600 for married couples...

Compassionate conservatism rears its ugly head. I hate when Bush's Keynesian side shows.

Can I get my rebate in

Can I get my rebate in EUROS? Also, has anyone noticed that Knoxnews.com web site has taken down the article referring to Fred Thompson being a sleeping bear on the prowl for win in S.C., maybe they are retooling and changing the phrase sleeping bear to a sleeping sharpei,

Boy, shades of pre-9/11 George W. Bush -- every time he opened his mouth, the stock market would tank. This was when "Kenny Boy" was doing his best Colonel Klink impression and about every 30th NASDAQ listing was on the front pages for fraud, misaccounting, etc.

That's for pussies

Due to big oil politics we've lost approximately 30 years of R&D toward becoming energy independent.

Why do we need that that when we have "the blessed way of life"?
