The East Tennessee SPJ chapter is sponsoring a workshop on shooting video for the web. The workshop is Nov. 29th at 7PM at the Knoxville News Sentinel.

The workshop is being held because reporters, including those of us who aren't broadcasters, are increasingly being asked to carry cameras to shoot video for online news Web sites.

The workshop will be held in the Knoxville News Sentinel's Community Room, and it will feature these panelists:

• Bob Legg, who teaches broadcast production courses at UT. He will lead off with the basics of shooting video.

• Brittany Bailey, a backpack journalist at WBIR-TV. She will offer insights on "shooting for news," including how to make the best use of natural lighting for interviews and the importance of including wide, medium and tight shots for visual storytelling.

Bailey has valuable experience posting stories to the Web and will outline the skills required for keeping interview subjects at ease when they are facing a camera.

• Jigsha Desai, an online editor at the Knoxville News Sentinel. Desai works with fellow staffers to keep KnoxNews.com updated. She will discuss what goes into keeping Web sites "fresh" with blogs, breaking news, and
multimedia extras.

The workshop is free for SPJ members and students, and $5 for non-members. Refreshments will be served.

For security reasons, the entrance of the News Sentinel Building will be staffed for entry only between 6:45 and 7:10 p.m., so please be prompt.
