Ron Paulie's banned from Gooper Blogs

Submitted by metulj on Wed, 2007/10/24 - 5:38pm.

This has made the rounds and deserves a notice. While a blog host can allow or disallow any speech they want on their site, the quashing of Ron Paul supporters at Red State is probably the perfect representation of how the Right eats its own. I can't tell you how funny this all is. THERE CAN BE NO CRITICISM OF THE ONE TRUE PARTY! Paul, who is criticizing Bush from the Right, is polling remarkably well and his appeal is broad-based ranging from Big 'L' libertarians/Republicans-who-want-to-get-high to, unfortunately, horror shows like Stormfront. He's big with the Shoot Cans Crowd too (a former poster* is now actively promoting the GOP iconoclast).

What makes this different from Democratic problems with iconoclastic leftists like Nader is that this is coming within the GOP, not from without. I guess there are people who would love to shut up the Kucinich people, but he 1. isn't crazy and 2. doesn't think he'll win. Paul could easily pop out and run a independent campaign, fracturing the Right even more, now that the Fundies are poised to bail on the whole shooting match.

To go off on a tangent, I predict Huckabee on the GOP ticket. That's Boudreaux's Butt Paste for this case of diaper rash. Wait. For. It.

*who took his ball and left when our estimable host reminded him that this blog is the host's private property.

EDIT: From the Times' Comments Section:

Someday soon, a candidate who has his origins in social networking sites will be elected.

Irony...

Ron Paul is the iconoclast the Republicans imagine themselves to be.

Kucinich isn't crazy -

Kucinich isn't crazy - OK
Link...

And Paul is not polling well nor is he really a Republican.

Funny the way this board is so quick to jump on any Republican candidate and particularly Thompson. But I have yet to see any support for any of the Democratic candidates. Are the board members ashamed of their choices? Come on - why should one want to support Hillary, Edwards, or Obama? Are there no supporters?

He's for small government,

He's for small government, low taxes and individual freedoms. That's not republican? Oh, yeah. Being a Republican means contracting private armies to fight wars for private companies, torturing innocent people, outing covert operatives, lying, etc and so forth and further.

As for the UFO and Kucinich: Consider the source. Sheesh. He wouldn't be crazy if he had said he had seen Jesus flying around on the wings of jet-powered Super Eagles. Right?

Ron Paul is the iconoclast

Ron Paul is the iconoclast the Republicans imagine themselves to be want to be known as. Kind of like their "big tent." Heh. Big because they can afford to buy the biggest darn tent money can buy. They just have the fewest people under it.

Are the board members ashamed of their choices?... Are there no supporters?

No. I support all of them, except maybe Gravel. ("board members"?)

Come on - why should one want to support Hillary, Edwards, or Obama?

That's been hashed out here before. Just search. The rest of them are all good, even if we don't have a "dream" candidate (whoever that might be). The GOP candidates, OTOH, are not just short of being dream candidates. They're the dregs. Though if you like W/Cheney, I'm sure you'll love Thompson or Rudy. Thompson is like Cheney's puppet, just like he was Nixon's. Rudy is like post-9/11 W on speed.

Romney seems more like what we thought W would be like before W's buddies stole the 200 election and then let W sleep through 9/11. Though Romney is more articulate and successful in business. So there's that.

Just my knox views, of course.

Big tent party

The ironic thing is that Paul is espousing a non-interventionist foreign policy that was pretty mainstream in the Republican party back in the '90s.

And back to my original question - Are the board members ashamed of their choices? Come on - why should one want to support Hillary, Edwards, or Obama? Are there no supporters?

I have yet to see a reason espoused here as to why these candidates are worthy

I'm not "ashamed" of my preferred candidate. But I don't know if it's good form to turn this forum into a campaign platform for a particular candidate.

I'm for Hillary, not the least reason being that's she's tough enough not to stand there like a deer in headlights when the GOP starts up the slime machine. Also, how much worse can the attacks on her get? I'm tired of seeing our guys go all to pieces when they just can't *believe* how evil the Repugs can be. I'm pretty sure Hillary has a good idea exactly how evil they are.

I'm not crazy about all her positions or everything she stands for, but I think she's sharp as a sack of tacks, which is a lot more than I can say about some of the clowns on the other team.

Reasons

I like Richardson for the breadth of his experience and Biden for the depth. I like Edwards' heart and Obama's soul. I admire Clinton's tenacity and Kucinich's outspokenness. I've heard good things about Dodd but can't narrow him to a soundbite.

With so many to choose from it's hard to decide. I'll support whoever gets nominated.

Huckabee

I'd like to ask metlj why he thinks Huckabee will be the nominee. The one interview I saw he came off as very anti-corporatist & anti-corruption. I'm cynical enough to think a candidate with these attitudes won't advance very far.

I'm curious to hear from Pam examples of Huckabee's incompetence.

Not the nominee, but on the ticket. Thompson/Huckabee. Giuliani/Huckabee. That would get the "Angry-white-guy-who-got-cut-from-JV-football/Jesus-is-coming-and-is-going-to-perfect-the -Jews" vote in the first instance and in the second example would definitely appeal to folks who just want a "crackdown."

Funny guy. Somebody hasn't been checking the poll numbers. It's not immediately post 9/11 anymore. Do you also still think the Iraq war is popular and anyone who disagrees with it or W is anti-American?

And back to my original question...

It's been covered here. What are you trying to distract us from this time? I think RKR puts his finger on it. All ten of them.

It's the message

Ron Paul supporters support his message of Liberty (remember that?). I personally think he has it wrong on abortion, but I'd rather be 85% pro to 15% con for a candidate instead of the usual 51% to 49%.
