Al Gore: Nobel Peace Prize
Submitted by bizgrrl on Fri, 2007/10/12 - 7:16am.
Former Vice President Al Gore and the U.N.'s Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change won the 2007 Nobel Peace Prize Friday for their efforts to spread awareness of man-made climate change and lay the foundations for counteracting it.
... The last American to win the prize or share it was former President Carter in 2002.
... "A peace prize is never a criticism of anything. A peace prize is a positive message and support to all those champions of peace in the world."
Macho Repubs thrive on fear. Those wimpy Democrats. All they want is peace.

beat those pesky monks in Myanmar and that holocaust hero. All this for an absolutely laughable alarmist hunk of fluff .. geez. And given that Comrade Carter picked the thing up in 2002 or some such I am sure that absolutely no statement whatsoever is being made that is in any way anti-American.

He is a peacemaker, therefore he looks at all sides evenly, and realizes no one is perfect. That's why he is such a successful negoitator. Choosing sides is not a trait that enables people to work towards comprise. Just see where that has gotten Bush and Condi Rice. Their we're always right attutude has gotten this nation nowhere. The idea that no one can criticize the Jews is unproductive and will cause a backlash of fear and anger against them. If we truly care about Israel, we have to support peace in the region, not just give unilateral support to anything our ally does.
So choosing Jimmy Carter and Al Gore for prizes is making an anti-American statement? I suppose that means those of us who admire Carter & Gore are also "anti-American"?
Geez, disagree with the selection if you like, but try doing it without the flaming insults.

I like the "Comrade Carter." Calling any American president a communist is laughable and demonstrates, yet again, how little you know about what a communist is. I have always wanted to teach a non-credit course called "Marx for Wingnuts." The first 10 weeks would involve convincing the attendees that I don't agree with Marx. The next two would involve trying to calm down the attendees when they realize that, holy mackerel, there are internal contradictions in capitalist ideology. The 13th week we'd have an ice cream social.

He deserves to be President. He's politically savvy, anti-the powers-that-be, and a proven environmentalist. I don't think he will run, but if he did I think he'd ignite a fire under the Democrats unlike any we have seen before. I consider Al Gore to be an American hero who got cheated out of his rightful place in the White House. You go, Al! Congratulations on the Prize!

If Gore were to run, he wouldn't be able to do the kinds of things he does now. He would be constrained by the kinds of campaign contributions he'd have to get from corporate interests who don't want the public to hear about global warming and single-payer healthcare.
He's probably better situated to do some good from where he is right now.

Does he really need those contributions? He is already polling pretty well without having spent a dime. He might be the rare candidate who can run a serious campaign without whoring himself out to interest groups or industries. In fact, he could make a big production of rejecting donations from all sorts of organizations. It would be great fun right up to the moment they put a bullet in his head or crashed his plane.

Good to have the reminder of who we're dealing with here in calloway. It's so good to know that his hero Duhbya has protected America (except for 9/11) and has done such a great job straightening out all of the other little problems in the world.

I always liked Comrade Carter, especially in that one episode where Hogan got him drunk to make him forget that he'd seen the microfiche films about the secret base.
Al Gore, Native Son, Vietman Vet., U.S, Representative, U. S. Senator, U. S. Vice President, Oscar Winner, Nobel Peace Prize winner, Presidental election stolen from him in 2000 and given to George Bush, a draft dodger, alleged drug user and now a War Crimal. The voters in Tennessee and in particular in ET should feel real proud of themselves.

Sadly, most do. They reward themselves at Spral*Mart followed by dinner at one of the fine generica establishments in Turkey Creek. Just hop in the Hummer and crank the A/C!

That's great. This excerpt doesn't spoil it:
There will be skeptics who ask what the Peace Prize has to do with global warming. The committee answered that unhesitatingly with its warning that climate change, if unchecked, could unleash massive migrations, violent competitions for resources and, ultimately, threaten the “security of mankind.”
There will also be those who complain that this prize — like the committee’s earlier awards to Jimmy Carter and the chief United Nations nuclear inspector, Mohamed ElBaradei — is an intentional slap at President Bush. It should be. We only wish that it would finally wake up the president.

Then there's the NY Post, which piled onto Gore with a story of a judge who apparently knows more about climate science than scientists do. A story that was prominently featured in our KNS, btw.

Anyone who seriously calls Jimmy Carter Comrade ought to put his thumb back in his mouth - after a thorough washing, of course.
Update: Here's my take on Duhbya's reaction.
Liberty and justice for all.

Must be right-wingnut heads exploding, all across America.

As Erica Jong says:
Calloway's reaction reminds me of the way the wingnuts howled when Martin Luther King won.
Guess that was an anti-American selection, too.
I'm proud of Al Gore
A stand up fellow.
