I'm sorry. Wish I could have been of more help.
Carole, I had the same
Carole, I had the same problem with an old Altima a few years back. IIRC, everyplace I called wanted at least $125 just to check it. I got on the internet, did some research on Altimas and ac. I found out that my car used the new refrigerant and how to add it to the ac. Went down to Auto Zone & got a can. Had my diagram to show where to put it in and put the stuff in. AC worked fine after that. Only cost about $20. I didn't know if that would fix it, but I figured it was worth a try. Glad I did.
Oh, if only CL...
I just got back from town, dreading every red light where the tiny breeze from moving ended and the sweating began. When I took my car to a garage the day the A?C quit, the mechanic told me the whole unit was hanging by a thread and that I was lucky it didn't screw up anything. Then he waved it in his hand like a dentist who had just pulled a rotten tooth and said he'd taken the unit out.
I never thought to ask any questions. I called around to junkyards and finally found one, but couldn't find someone willingto figure the mess out and install it.
I'm now feeling very attracted towards men with greasy knees and black fingernails.
Red sky this morning--yeah!
The moon also has a halo around it last night. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that sometime within the next 24 hours we will get a nice solid shower.
Personally I can't take much more. The A/C in my car is dead and the estimate to fix it is more than I can afford. I love my little old car and it only has 100,000 miles on it. Not a lot for a Subaru, so I hate to buy another car.
A little cool air and rain would make my day!

On WATE at 6, Hinkin showed a picture taken today of the Rockies west of Denver. They had a dusting of snow from last night.
The outdoor thermometer on
The outdoor thermometer on my car gauge has always seemed pretty accurate, within a degree or two I'd say. Yesterday around 6 p.m. on I-40 in WeKno it hit 104 degrees. Tonight it was only 101, I think. Granted that's over hot pavement and influenced by all the hot exhaust, etc. I think it was 97 or 98 by the time I got home.
Tonight at about 9:15 it read 89 when we were leaving downtown.
76 degrees
I solved the problem for today by heading for the higher elevations. I really needeed some face time with nature. Perhaps because of an earlier rain shower it was comfortable at the chimneys picnic area. (2500 ft) I even took some paperwork along so I could feel productive.
As I was leaving some picnickers told me a bear had been spotted not 50 yards from where I sat by the stream. Good thing I didn't have face time with the beast.

Good news:
It was 102 in the shade on the back porch around 4PM this afternoon.
By 6PM it was down to 97.
Now it's 93.
Last night between 6 and 7PM the temp was still going up (it hit a little over 101).
So, I think this is a good sign?
Good sign
Well, last night at 9 p.m., the Weather Channel said it was 90. Tonight it's 86. I guess that's some progress.

It's hot!
WTF?
Does anybody in East Tennessee need to turn on the TV to discover that it's hot?
Blount County has a water shortage that may result in mandatory rationing.
Hallsdale Powell Utility District has an abundance of it, enough to offer farmers one thousand gallons for $5.50.
Maybe we could truck some of it to Maryville.

And HOTTER out!
Eight days later it is even hotter. Stepped out to water a few plants. Sweat (perspiration:) dripping after 10-15 minutes.
Yikes...

It's raining right now, but the weather forecast is for 101.
So it's going to be really, really muggy.

I have taken an old portable
I have taken an old portable convection oven out of storage and I use it on the back porch to keep from heating my kitchen with the regular oven.
There is now an antique clothes drying rack in the spare bedroom where the A/C is closed off so I don't have to run the dryer.
The dishwasher only runs late at night using the air-dry setting, and I try to use the microwave as often as possible instead of the stove.
I am considering setting up the camp stove on the back porch as well. The old folks knew what they were doing when they put the kitchen in a separate building.

I know what you mean. We're running out of things to grill on the patio.
Tonight we ate takeout from the Greek deli on Chapman Highway. Yum. Tomorrow night we're going out. Maybe by Saturday night it'll be cool enough to cook (I'm not holding out much hope tho).
I want deep cool blue water to toss my body into...
My yard looks like scorched earth. My skin could turn on an alligator, and every time I try to talk only dust blows out. Ah for the Keys...ah for a big wave...ah for anything but this hot overturned bowl of chili pepper air...
I'm ready for autumn. When is it coming? Will I still be alive?
