UPDATE: Check out the other spot too!

Schree's campaign has a new TV spot out! Enjoy the youtube google video.

For the life of me, I can't see how campfield could be against pre-k.

Pettigrew the Pedophile

That ad will backfire on her with the Freudian Slip.

"Pettigrew the Pedophile?"
Huh?
It's not like Schree had a registered sex offender living in her house, or nuttin.

Good ad

I like it. It is catchy and drives the point home. I hope she wins!

I don't know if Campfield

I don't know if Campfield will run TV or not. This ad gives Campfield more face time and shows his name more than he's ever had on TV. I don't know when Pettigrew is buying time, but I've not seen her ads on the air.

Campfield has never been much on fundraising. In the end, I think this one will come down to name recognition. Outside some Dem circles no one knows Pettigrew. Every voter in the 18th knows Campfield. He's been to their house 4, 5, 6 times each of the last 4 terms. Remember, he's been working this district since he ran against Buttry.

Democrats and some Republicans greatly underestimate Campfield. Just look at the Republican primary. I'm no longer in that district, but the last thing I want is Naifeh to have another vote in Nashville. Pettigrew makes it close with a big budget, but Campfield wins by 5+.

If people are willing to

If people are willing to reelect a shockingly embarrassing know-nothing for public office on name recognition alone, then why bother having the election at all?

The Jeopardy! answer:

What is "So the GOP can tweak their vote suppression methods?"

(Sorry. Couldn't resist. I'm completely caught up in Prisoner of Trebekistan right now.)

I saw a Pettigrew ad the other night. I think it might have run during the Daily Show or Colbert Report. It actually gave a lot of face time to Campfield, except his face was to the pavement and four cops were cuffing his hands behind his back. What's up with that?

Campfield in Cuffs

At the Jimmy Duncan BBQ a few yearts ago he started a scuffle when Bredesen showed up and was arrested.  He didn't just start being a clown when he got elected.

Take Care, Be Good and don't play in the street!

cbt ; why would anyone underestimate campfield?

two years ago he pulled an upset in the primary & won the general election with 65% of the vote...in august campfield won 70% of the primary vote..& everybody knows campfield's knocked on more doors than kid looking for candy on halloween...so tell me...why would anybody underestimate campfield?...i've thrown a little money in the pot & knocked on doors one day for schree..because i know campfield is a tough opponent..& so does schree..like you i do not vote in the 18th...but i urge folks in the district to vote for Schree Pettigrew because she will work with Governor Bredesen for a brighter future for the 18th district

I think Campfield gets

I think Campfield gets underestimated for many of the same reasons his opponents complain about him (see Pettigrews first ad for an example). To his opponents, it seems like a no-brainer (see some of the comments in this thread). What these folks never seem to get is the voters in the 18th apparently like him a lot.

If Pettigrews ad is running on the Daily Show or Colbert, sounds like she bought some cable time. I don't think Comcast of Charter allows you to pick shows, you pick channels and days, then buy a certain number of spots which will run at some point on those channels on those days. Cable gets you lots of spots for the money, but hitting voters in the 18th is really hit and miss. News channels are good. But, the Comedy Channel? Local TV is far more expensive (for a reason, you hit a lot more local people). I don't think there's a lot of bang for the (expensive) buck with TV in a district race.

Not "it." "He."

philly left hook

joe frazier won the heavyweight title by working the body;then ending the fight with a thundering philly left hook..& thats the way you beat an incumbent with the numbers campfield wins campaigns by...schree's been working the body..her opponent's hands drop...& BAM..a thundering philly left hook..fight over...i know you can't underestimate campfield...he's a good fighter & proven he can take a punch..but bredesen's in schree's corner & that could be the difference

I saw the Schree ad on tee

I saw the Schree ad on tee vee, but I don't remember which channel.  I do remember that the spouse turned to me and said "did she just basically say he has a small dick?"

I thought it was pretty funny - and I thought Campfield deserved every minute of it.  I (thankfully) have no idea about the size of his thingie, but his brain is indeed pea-sized.

And yeah, Chad, he'll probably win.  That name recognition thing counts for a lot.  Here's hoping tho.

State Party wouldn't spend

State Party wouldn't spend money on TV ads unless her numbers were at least decent. Methinks CBT (who's in here ignoring us even yet again) is protesting too much.

Cable TV - Wave of the future

There's a reason only some of you are seeing Schree's ads, and it's actually part of a nationwide trend - Cable Tv ads can be incredibloy well targeted - down to ZIP code levels or smaller. Plus cable channels skew to certain demographic groups, so if you're going after women, you buy on channels for women, people with kids, you buy on kids channels, etc.

In this way, Cable beats the snot out of local TV - while a lot of people watch it, a lot of those people don't live in the district.

And yeah, Eleanor, you're right! If things weren't looking good for Schree, I don't think you'd see articles about Governor Bredesen coming to campaign for her. And to the folks who say the ad gives Stacey face time, well, he's due for a little truthful attention outside of blogland.

That is, indeed, a two-edged sword.  Thank goodness for satellite TV.  "Somebody up there likes you".

Imagine, no hiimmikehatmakerjimgogildodge ads on the History Channel.

clever

I think the targeted TV incredibly clever; add this to a well funded (and again, targeted) direct-mail campaign, an army of volunteers knocking doors and making calls (some, since the spring), and backing from Bredesen and Ford and you have a winner.

Campfield is a warrior in the field though he should have never said that a woman couldn't beat him --especially this one! I hear she buys canvassing shoes in bulk.

Gemini, didn't you call the race for Drinnen in the primary?

bill young's picture

philly left hook

if u r wondering what a philly left hook is...go to you tube frazier/ali I..1970..15th round....frazier said he reached all the back to philly 4 the left hook that floored ali

Rachel's picture

I don't know if I actually

I don't know if I actually called the race for Drinnen, but I really thought he'd do well.  I based that on his campaign experience, his backing, the fact that he's a moderate, reasonable, intelligent guy, and that even the 18th district Republicans must be ashamed of Campfield.  Too bad I was wrong.

I saw the Shree ad again last night - on MSNBC during Olbermann.  And I don't think it's targeted by zip, cause there's no reason to show it in 37920.  But if you want to get the attention of younger, more liberal voters, Olbermann is a heck of a good slot to use.
