Made a statement; didn't take questions. He's "sorry if he offended anybody."
Didn't directly apologize for calling Muslims "goat-humpers" or Obama voters "stupid."
I guess the KNS can republish its story now.

Here's WBIR's take.
"As of now, I consider this matter closed."
Well, nice try Foster, but you don't really get to decide that.
Could have been closed.
(in reply to Rachel)
But he decided to let everybody know he's a proud Republican and American and didn't much care for our current President's policies.
So he must be proud the members of the Supreme Court of the United States of America, the majority appointed by Republican presidents, voted to uphold the ACA?
Or that the same Republican court voted to uphold DOMA?
Or maybe he likes that GW Bush was conservative in drone strikes against terrorist leaders, as he used nine times less strikes than Obama?
Maybe the Dow Jones showing record numbers is bad policy?
To me, what he decided to "open", doesn't get closed just because he says so. I suppose we'll get to see if the press obliges.
Arnett has guts
It is about time someone reminded the public, this is still a free country. It is not the new republic of Mexico or big India.
Well,
(in reply to malissa )
Thanks for clearing that up. I was wondering, err, something.
I'm not sure what India has
(in reply to malissa )
I'm not sure what India has to do with anything (enlighten me, please), but nobody thinks that Arnett didn't have the right to say such things.
Some of us think it was unbecoming to a public official to call an ethnic group by a slur and a good part of the constituency you are sworn to serve "stupid." And just as Arnett has the right to say offensive things, we all have the right to point out how offensive they are.
He's still a small mind and an embarrassment to Knox County
He's trying to pull a page out of the old Mike Ragsdale playbook, thinking there is no controversy if I say there is no controversy, but the general public is on to such feeble public servants.
I'm not sure if his lawsuit is before a jury or just a judge, but any hopes he had of winning that case, in front of a bunch of idiots too stupid to get out of jury duty, just went flying out the door.
Crawl on back to Seqoyah Hills Foster, where things like your bumper stickers or FaceBook posts might be funny and get out of public life where such biases and prejudices aren't very funny.
Pretty lame if you ask me.
Pretty lame if you ask me. Sounds like he was apologizing for getting caught, not what he posted. I do wonder what the KNS will report now. Should be interesting.
Here's a partial answer. I
(in reply to xmd)
Here's a partial answer. I suspect Arnett would still be stonewalling if it weren't for Sam McKenzie.
This KNS piece is dated as of
(in reply to Rachel)
This KNS piece is dated as of today and seems to refer in part to a meeting presumably held last Tuesday 21st, nearly a week ago, at which McKenzie spoke. Since the paper pulled its Arnett story over this period, did they also sit on McKenzie's condemnation of Arnett's remarks until the latter made his statement today? If so, that's low.
While there IS an update indicated to the story with a time stamp of this evening, I'd wager readers of this blog would have noted this article, had it appeared in any earlier version prior to today.
I read it to have happened at
(in reply to Glasat)
I read it to have happened at today's County Commission meeting. But I'll reread it.
Okay, weird. It does say Tuesday. But it also says the monthly Commission meeting, which is on the 4th Monday (i.e. today). Then later in the story it says "Monday's commission meeting." Something's mixed up somewhere.
Oh, come on Foster! Put the mic back on!
What's are the problems with the path? What are the president's goals?
Should you not warn your public of these things?
If you're too afraid to elaborate, should we assume you're somebody's girlfriend?
Just kidding, I know you're a tough guy. You have bumper stickers and memes to prove it.
Looks to me like he didn't so
Looks to me like he didn't so much as come out of hiding as he decided to try a different hiding system. Apparently he is just learning about that whole can't unring a bell thing. (Or is it can't unblow a dog whistle?)
So, I guess he wasn't hacked?
So, I guess he wasn't hacked?

Arnett can say all day long that he's "never hidden the fact that (he's) a conservative Republican," but the fact of the matter is this (from Rachel's above link to WBIR coverage):
Lots of Knox County's other conservative Republicans are distancing themselves from Arnett. The Republican Party doesn't need and doesn't want his particular twist on "conservatism."
Arnett is pretty much all by his lonesome on this one.
Autocorrect
Someone typed in "today", perhaps with a typo, "Tuesday" is what came out.
Just noticed that the story
(in reply to Up Goose Creek)
Just noticed that the story also says Arnett's posts were no longer visible WEDNESDAY.
It does sound like this story was written last week, after the Commission workshop.
What's funny is he posted
What's funny is he posted something about being stupid and then he shares a post that says loosing instead of losing. "We're loosing our America...." Bahahahaha Now that's just funny!
What about the pompous "Bring it" remark?
That man could use a big slab of humble pie.
It is entirely feasible to
It is entirely feasible to oppose the president, his goals, and the "path this country is going down" without sounding like an ignorant, paranoid racist redneck when you post on social media. PRO TIP.

Kudos to Sam McKenzie
Kudos to Sam McKenzie for speaking out on this. Wonder what the other commissioners had to say - if anything.
And I resent all the slurs about Sequoyah Hills. Progressives live throughout this city, including Sequoyah Hills. People who cast aspersions based solely on zip code are putting themselves in the same category as Foster Arnett.
No surprises
I do find it a little nauseating when small-minded politicians hide behind our troops. Mr. Arnett's statement is a non-apology apology. He sees nothing wrong with what he said, and is clearly offended that anyone viewed his "private" Facebook account. When he wrote those hateful things, his posts were clearly set to be viewable by anyone who cared to look, so his comments were less private than if he had stood in the middle of Market Square and yelled them out.
He is sorry if anyone was offended, but not sorry to have said any of it.
The most revolting part, though, was his conclusion, stating that he's proud of our troops. He may or may not be, but his use of that comment in his statement is a clear attempt to use members of our armed forces as a rhetorical shield to protect him from accountability for the hatred that he spewed before. I wonder, though, is he proud of our troops who are also Muslim? Is he proud of our troops who voted for President Obama? They do exist. How can he be proud of them when he clearly has no respect for them?
The KNS has now edited its
The KNS has now edited its story to take out all the confusing references to "Tuesday" and "Wednesday" and is sticking with stuff said "Monday." Still don't know what to make of the original, although it sure sounds like at least some of it was originally written last week. If not, the reporter has a lot of trouble with days of the week, and she's better than that.
Some other info added as well; worth reading again.
Sam McKenzie
Sadly during the meeting no local tv media was there. I have put in a request to CTV Knoxville if they can expedite uploading the video from yesterday's board meeting to allow the community members an unfiltered view of what was said. The video should be out of the processor around 5pm according to CTV, so it should take a while before it is up on their website.
On a side note... I have added about 50 more photos of the meeting that can be viewed https://www.facebook.com/knoxfocus
Progressives move into Sequoyah Hills
Blue bloods of Knoxville proper and the narrow minded pin heads which prevent Knoxville becoming a growing and expanding city, are born in Sequoyah Hills and they never leave there.
The next thing you know, Knoxville will be so lacking in business and economic momentum that we'll have nobody to sponsor our annual boomsday fireworks display at Labor Day.
You guys really need to
(in reply to Elwood Aspermonte)
You guys really need to research the Sequoyah Hills precinct (24Q) voting record. You might be surprised at what you find. It tends Republican, but it reject right-wing crazies and the obviously unqualified (a la Eddie Pridemore).
Sequoyah Hills
(in reply to Rachel)
Sequoyah Hills also went for Gloria Johnson
My point exactly.
(in reply to Knoxgal)
My point exactly.
Thanks to CTV Knoxville the video is up!
CTV Video of Yesterday's full commission meeting
Hey everyone, the good people at CTV made this a priority due to the high interest in the story.
Dan
good old Sam
(in reply to danandrews)
Why does no one ever call Sam McKenzie on what he does? Like when he said he would go to jail so he could keep breaking the Sunshine Law with the joint County Commission and School Board committee?
Or when he makes ridiculous claims: (link...)
To quote Mike Ragsdale, both of these men are showboats. I'm glad they are both on their final lap in office.
Thanks Sam
(in reply to Bad Print)
I think he made an excellent speech and if no one else on County Commission has the heart to follow up on this, it's a sad day in Knox County.
61 minutes and 50 seconds
Sam McKenzie starts at 61 minutes and 50 seconds
Thanks Dan

Thanks for posting this Dan
Growing and expanding
Kind of curious what inspired this comment? Knoxville has been growing at a healthy pace over the last several years.
And even if it is not hugely bigger it is expotentially better.
Scale?
(in reply to Up Goose Creek)
"Hugely" is bigger than "exponentially"?
Explanation
(in reply to ArtWagner)
Let me rephrase this numerically:
Knoxville (city) has grown approx. 9% in population over the last 20 yrs.
Knoxville (especially downtown) has had an increase in quality of activity of 50-500% depending on who you ask or what you are evaluating. That's what I mean by better. It is entirely subjective thus hard to quantify. Though you could quantify the number of stores, restaurants, residences etc.
I'll miss boomsday a lot less than I would miss a revitalized market square. There's still 4th of July, ZF.
But... but...
(in reply to Up Goose Creek)
we are in danger of losing Boomsday? (Sniff)

Ouch.
Ouch.
Why is this racist still in office?
I cannot believe someone can be a blatant racist and sexist, use blatant hate speech, and still hold public office.. At least he showed his true colors and ignorance before running for mayor.
