The preacher
I used to be a roommate of the son of the minister of Mrs. Galyon's church. I'm tempted to expound, but this dialogue stands alone.
I believe I would have gotten on in a grand way with your brother. RIP.
I will have to listen to my
I will have to listen to my whoop-ass man tape when my better half gets home from work today. I used to work with Eddie Auto's son.
I'm sorry, Betty
I know time makes the pain easier to deal with, but it doesn't make it go away. Much love to you and your family today.
"Tennessee" by John R. Bean
"Tennessee" by John R. Bean
A true legend in an era when that word gets so abused
It's hard to be in a crowd around these parts and hear or say one of his many classic lines without having someone look up and smile in recognition.
Fragmented media has curtailed water cooler moments
(in reply to Factchecker)
And if on the rare chance an event does get people talking, it's usually going to end up in frowns, not smiles.
All through the 90's, you really could throw out a line and at least get people chuckling. In the right moment, you could have 'em rolling. I remember once at work the schtick actually going beyond the water cooler, as a buddy and I did routines to customers all day.
What an impressive thing. Call seven digits, get somebody going and keep all who heard the fallout laughing for a decade.
Or more.
One of my favs is 357 shells. I'm linking, but be forewarned it's R for language. But if you've ever been in sales, you know the character John was doing. (link...)
You know.....

That baby ain't never gonna amount to nothing.
My dad put it there. Looks pretty good.
Caller ID would have ended
(in reply to Average Guy)
Caller ID would have ended John's pranking career.
As for the above, that John's House of Guns guy made Eddie Harvey sound like a Sunday School teacher. He actually killed somebody a few years later. Shot his next door neighbor over a property boundary dispute. I believe Herb was his lawyer.
John staked out his 'victims,' and actually timed some of them to see how fast he could make them cuss. JHoG-guy set the record, I believe. He was one foul mouthed feller.
Wow. Thanks for filling in
(in reply to Bbeanster)
Wow. Thanks for filling in some of the background. Your brother supplied lots of laughs and an excuse for the crew I ran with to parrot something besides SNL or Monty Python.
One of my favorites was Testimony Time, calling in to bless that little A-rab.

Sadly, nobody's buying oil filters at Eddie's Auto Parts anymore. Ed Harvey, one of Knoxville's great characters, died this summer. Here's an old story about him.

That Jackass video I posted above is one of the funniest damn things I ever saw. Posting again, lest it gets lost. John would approve.

Well Goddamn!

Shit.
It's a carpet.......
for your floor.
There was a time when being able to recite the whole of the tapes was a requirement to be a UPS driver. And the ability to pick the right line to follow the pre-work communication meeting was a sacred trust held by those of only the highest esteem.
Do they get carsick?
It would be a turrible tragedy if one of them pigs was to eat one of the children.
