This could be BIG.

If you watched the women's basketball NCAAs, who was the most intriguing player in the games?

If you said Diamond DeShields, buy yourself a beer.

The UNC freshman was the flashiest, most potential-oozing kid out there. She shocked everybody last year by committing to UNC and bringing a star-studded class of recruits with her. She's upbeat and a huge talker, and was once considered a lock to come to UT, because her mother was an All American in track here. Her dad is baseball star Delino DeShields, so the genes are out the roof, so to speak.

Some crazy stuff happened that allegedly sent her off in another direction for college (Pat's Alheimer's diagnosis probably didn't help), but Tennessee fans were just grateful she didn't end up in Geno's vile embrace and considered her the big one that got away.

Anyhow, here's the punchline:

She's withdrawn from UNC. Gone, girl.
Fans who stalk kids' Twitter accounts say she designated herself a VFL the other night. T'ea Cooper, stellar point guard in the Class of '15, is strongly considering UT. Her boyfriend is being courted by Butch Jones and is said to be leaning our way. Cooper is DD's BFF, so the tea leaves are looking good. There's a whole lot of talk about this tonight, and if you've seen this kid play, she's Holdsclaw good, with a great outside shot. Taurasi good, without the attitude. She's That Good. If Holly can reel this kid in, it'll be the biggest LV coup since Candace Parker. She really is That Good.

Well, crappola.

Smart money's on Jawjah. Shame to waste a talent like that on a program with such pitiful attendance.

Oh, well. She's an Atlanta kid, and if her objective is to play close to home, that's the place for her. Maybe sadsack Andy Landers'll be able to sell some tickets if he gets her.
