UPDATE: Tennessean reports...

Background...

Looks like the Republicans are out of food

They are beginning to eat their own now.

State election coordinator is a Republican, governor is a Republican, State House and Senate are Republican Super Majorities, Davidson County Election Commission is Republican Majority and Tieche is a Republican, Gotto that just quit is a Republican.

Granted the State had a real problem with the Davidson County election commission's accoutability and performance in the 2012 presidential election cycle, but to go cannibal on one of their own election administrators is pretty rare.

For years these election commissions were sleepy little government pioneer outposts, buried in the bowels of some courthouse, courthouse annex or other surplus county space, but no more.

Well, the KCEC was NOT innocent either...

And it was run by the Chief Cliff and his subordinates who were GOP... dedicated to pushing voter suppression on those voters.
We registered many voters and talked to many who already knew about the tricks. I learned this past Saturday about one Ward/Precinct where NO ONE was able to cast a vote in November, 2012. Yet no one had the courage to complain. The building was dark, no lights inside or out. Voting advocates finally called the police who came with two squad cars and used headlights to shine on the doors and sidewalks. NOT A WORD ever appeared anywhere. We had poll watchers in most all of our Knox County Districts, and we observed many who were given provisional ballots...but we failed to follow up to find out if their ballots were COUNTED.
And I found a report in KNS that indicated only one third of those provisional ballots WERE, in fact, counted across TN.

Now we learn (in the Knox Focus, not anywhere else in the media), that the Voter/Photo ID law is now 'amended'. People who move to Tennessee who have valid Voter or photo ID cards from other States WILL NOT BE ABLE to use those...and of course college students still cannot use School IDs.

So we, who care, will continue to register new voters and make sure everyone knows what is required in order to vote.
It is still considered VOTER SUPPRESSION...we will just watch 'em closer down at the Courthouse and in Nashville.
