The saga of the redlight cameras continues - in Arizona. NPR ran this piece today on Morning Edition.

Intense Backlash Against Arizona Speed Cameras

Arizona governor Jan Brewer (Republican) says she won't renew the state contract with Redflex when it expires this summer. Meanwhile, several bills to kill the program are moving through the Arizona Legislature. And a citizen's group is collecting signatures for a November ballot measure to outlaw statewide photo speed enforcement.

figured it out

I finally figured out why red light cameras are getting killed.

Now, I hate them as much as anyone but am surprised at the vitriol they receive. So I go to thinking, how is this different from so many other terribly bad actions and laws?
Then it hit me. Cameras are not "discriminating" when they catch someone breaking the law. Doesn't matter what you're driving, what color your skin is, what influential people you know, what your bumper sticker says, only that you violated the law. And that's just WRONG. :-)
