The Southeastern Division of the Association of American Geographers (SEDAAG) is the largest and most active (IMHO) regional division of the the Association of American Geographers, the largest academic geography organization in the world. There will be around 500 geographers in attendance, with papers in all disciplines from climatology to paleolimnology to human rights to etc, so forth, and so on. It's technically not open to the public, but there will be people following Jack Neely around on a tour of downtown Knoxville and environs, a Tennessee Wines and Cheeses events hosted by my colleague Dawn Drake, and, I wish I could go on this one, a field trip to the Smoky Mountains entitled "Physical & Human Geography of the Great Smoky Mountains: Cades Cove" lead by UT geography's Henri Grissino-Mayer, as well as a field exploration of Tennessee riparian environments directed by UT geography's Carol Harden. All events will be at the downtown Hilton and I will be holding forth at the Downtown Grill and Brewery immediately following the "Geographies of Europe" session on Monday. So if you see the odd climatologist making stuff up and getting rich while doing it, pat her or him on the head and send them on their way.
