The local paper has this AP blast about a Winthrop Poll that has some expected (partisan views of Obama's 'trustworthiness') and even more expected (residents of bulk recipient states want more money).

Nearly 72 percent said they favored new government programs to create jobs. Meanwhile, 63 percent said the federal government needs to give aid to states in serious financial trouble. Those positions were strongest among Democrats and independents, while Republicans were narrowly opposed.

Further down in that bastion of scholarship known as the News-Sentinel's comment section is this amazing bit of "huh?":

AtticusRex: The poll only asked 866 individuals in 11 states. You could ask 866 people in Knoxville and not have a large enough sample size to make the percentages even close to valid. This survey tells us little if nothing about what a majority of people in the south actually think. But thanks to the AP for at least admitting how many people were in the survey, instead of just giving the percentages without an validity data.

Wow. I keep forgetting that the American South is actually Bizzaro World where up is down and The Central Limit Theorem is invalidated by someone saying "Nuh-uh." I hope any additional monies that comes in on these pleas for more Federal largess (AKA transfer of incomes taxes from bulk contributing states like NJ and MA to the American South) go toward some basic math education in these States.
