By way of Hamdems, here's an interesting website: Kilowattours.org

Operated by the Southern Energy Conservation Initiative in Nashville, Kilowattours is on a mission to reduce the consumption of electricity generated by coal-fired power plants. Their film, Kilowatt Ours, explores the coal based energy industry and talks about ways to conserve.

A schedule of showings is here. A showing is scheduled in Knoxville on Friday, March 17th at 7:00 PM at the Church of the Savior, United Church of Christ, 934 Weisgarber Rd. 37909. You can get your own DVD copy of the film for a tax-deductible donation of $20. Information about organizing public or home screenings can be found here.

TerraPass

Very neat.  Anybody heard of a TerraPass: (link...) ?   If it works as advertised, you buy a "pass" for the CO2 you emit, and they invest it in offsetting ways.  They've basically converted per unit emission and removal (essentially) of CO2 into $, and you pay them to remove the effects of your consumption.  If that doesn't make sense, follow the link and check it out.  If it's properly audited, I can't find fault with it other than the fact that one is not actually reducing one's initial CO2 emission.
