I haven't seen an official number reported anywhere yet, but from looking at the machine vote totals we can guesstimate that about 21,000 Republicans and about 4300 Democrats voted by machine. With the 6100 or so paper ballots, it looks like about 31,400 people voted.

If this is the case, it appears Rikki's earlier prediction was just about spot on. It also means turnout was about 13%. Which to me is shockingly low given the circumstances of this election, but unfortunately seems to be par for the course in Knox County.

Is this the lowest voter

Is this the lowest voter turnout in the history of Knox County or does is this fairly typical?

Nah, nah, na, nah, nah. Blount County had higher voter turn out, percentage wise anyway. I guess the mayoral race seemed important to the Republicans anyway.

Maybe people could not vote

Maybe people could not vote because they had to get home and watch Idol.

According to the survey, one in ten American adults has cast a vote for an Idol contestant this season and of the 1,045 people who responded to the telephone poll, 35 percent of those surveyed said they believed voting on American Idol was as important or even more important than voting in a U.S. presidential election.
