GOP "don't be misled" ad is misleading

Janice Tocher, communications coordinator for County Commission District 9 candidate Steve McGill, alerts us that the Knox Co. Republican Party has placed a full page ad in the current issue of the South Knoxville Times saying:

"Do not be misled by those that say you are wasting your vote. The Courts have ruled that these candidates are eligible to serve."

The ad says it was "Paid for by Knox GOP, Nick McBride, Treasurer."

Uh, not so fast. The only definitive court ruling so far is the Tennessee Supreme Court ruling that the Shelby County charter term limit provisions apply to county commissioners. The state elections coordinator advised that the ruling also applies to Knox County.

A subsequent ruling by Knox County Chancellor John Weaver said the entire Knox County Charter, and thus its term limits, are invalid. But after the ballot was set, that decision was stayed for 180 days, so the Charter and its term limits are still technically in effect pending further legal action.

So it would seem that it's this GOP ad that is misleading. Turnout in some of the presumably term limited candidates' districts appears to be encouraging for the challengers. The GOP status-quo appears to be getting nervous and even desperate.

Really?

Mike Moyers recused himself from the term limits issue. David Collins, Phil Guthe, and John Griess sued Knox County to invalidate the Charter.

No court has ruled that these "ineligible term limited candidates" are eligible to serve. John F. Weaver issued a muddled ruling invalidating the Charter which he later stayed.

This is the politics of KNOX GOP. To confuse, obfuscate, mislead, and to lie.

KNOX GOP is unified and dedicated to trying to fool the people. Don't be fooled again.

Look for the Orange Ballot. Vote for independent thinkers.

. . . I'm sure that Hornback and Ragsdale (and Vandervate and Arms)must've felt by including Lumpy Lambert in that ad, when they are working so hard for the Democrat Margaret Massey Cox.

in the north knox section of today's paper...that includes fountain city and halls..and it's still misleading...i'll be honest, i never really liked mary lou horner as a commissioner, but i have to say if she ran again in two years or four years or whatever for a different position in city or county government, i would vote for her based solely on the fact that she retired from the race when the court ruling in shelby county made the term limits in knox county valid...and she did so with class and grace that none of the other term limited candidates have exhibited when they sued to protect their positions yet again.

They are using the same ad on the radio, but only to promote Hutchinson, quist, Ragsdale and a couple of judges. Stacey

If MLH had truly quit the race, James McMillan would have won the GOP primary, and this county would be blessed with that rarest of commodities, an honest man in public office. Instead,you are about to get R. Larry Smith, who bullied his way through the campaign(do a google search), and will serve in office accordingly. He is going to make you yearn for the good old days of Horner.

Horner, who loathes R. Larry, "suspended" her campaign, probably still thought she was going to win, and she asked for votes until the very last day, thereby assuring Smith's election to an office he'd been running for for a decade.
