"All You Need is Love"

From the winter of 1964, when "I Want to Hold Your Hand" exploded on the American music scene.

Till the fall of 1980, when Lennon's " Just Like Starting Over"
hit number one.

John Lennon's music was a rock & roll love story.

"I Want to Hold Your Hand" is about the Genesis of love.

"And when I touch you;I feel happy inside; As such a
feeling;that my love;I can't hide;I can't hide."

"Just like Starting Over" is about the Revelation of lasting
love.

"Our life is so precious together; We have grown; We have grown."

At the time of Lennon's tragic death, it seamed to me, like he'd been around forever.

After all, I was 10 when the Fabs landed @ JFK & in my late 20's when he passed.

But now,on what would have been his 70th birthday & I realize what a short time it really was.

Just 16 years & eight months from time "I Want to Hold Your Hand" hit number one till "Just Like Starting Over" hit number one.

Lennon sang about peace, revolution, working class heroes
& dreamed that "we could all live as one."

So "Everybody; All you need is Love,Love;Love is all you need."

Thanks for posting this. John

Thanks for posting this. John Lennon is one of my favorite artists of all time. Imagine is such a wonderful song, along with A Hard Day's Night, Ask Me Why, Come Together, Dear Prudence, Good Morning Good Morning, and so many more.

You may say that I'm a dreamer
But I'm not the only one
I hope someday you'll join us
And the world will live as one

NPR did a short piece on Lennon, mentioning that he took his young son Sean to the West Side YMCA in New York for swimming lessons.

It reminded me of the battle here to save the pool at the downtown Knoxville YMCA. The regional director, Jim Dickson, wanted to pave over the pool to provide additional space for exercise machines displaced from the condo lobby. At a time of 'financial exigency' (that was before the current 'crisis') he couldn't justify two swimming pools downtown. We argued (in a letter published in the Sunday News-Sentinel) that many male Knoxvillians learned to swim at the downtown YMCA, and that the pool was not only a great space, but an historic treasure. Apparently, the letter so moved present and former YMCA members that the pool was saved. John would have been proud!

John Lennon is one of the few

John Lennon is one of the few musicians I consider "timeless."

Oh, and Bill, I was 4 when the Fab4 landed at JFK! Now you know why I'm such a good, and proud, hippie -- my formative years were spent listening to messages of peace, love, and support for the working class.

Honestly, I can't think of a song I didn't like.

Honestly, I can't think of a song I didn't like.

Ringo's rendition of Act Naturally is the only one that comes to my mind but I think he did it as a joke.

Oh . . and there was A Taste of Honey.
