Newt Gingrich:

"We need to get ahead of the curve before we actually lose a city, which I think could happen in the next decade," said Gingrich.

Apparently he's not aware that we already lost one.

Terrorism ain't the only threat to our collective security, Mr. Salamander.

(Actually, he was talking about the danger of unexamined Constitutional rights going forward. Comforting.)

Is it 'strategerey'?

I saw the Newtinator on CSPAN last week giving some speech where he warned that suticase-nuke/bio-chem attacks were going to occur in the U.S. within the decade and that large cities needed to start having training drills - he suggested 2 nuke alert drills a year and one bio-alert drills for half a dozen cities.

seems like he is using the fading but still popular fear and panic campaign tactic W. and Rove have used, in his ill-advised run for the White House. so far his themes have been declaring the U.S. is in World War 3 (or maybe 4), that nuke attacks are imminent, and that the whole free speech concept needs to be dismissed and rewritten to become a tool of national security.
