From WATE:

The National Park Service is asking the public to comment on the proposed construction of the next section of the Foothills Parkway and access improvements between Wears Valley and the Metcalf Bottoms area of Great Smoky Mountains National Park.

Walker Sister's Cabin

Google maps shows that the park service already owns ROW for an offshoot that goes to Little Brier Gap, along with the ROW to the Gatlinburg spur and on to Cosby.

It's troubling to think of a new road going by the Walker Sister's cabin on the way to meet Little River road.

The existing Wear's Gap road towards the picnic area is almost a straight shot. What is needed is a new bridge to the northwest so the road goes straight across towards the picnic area. Sad to say this will encourage RVs but better that than traffic backups when RVs try to back up turn around just before the bridge. This piece of road needs to be widened, and there are wetlands involved, but isn't that far less impact than paving a pristine, historic valley.

North of the park boundary, Line Springs road feels wider - maybe that is because you are driving slower due to the curves. It could stand 2 to 4 more feet of pavement, perhaps some retaining walls but the good news is houses are on one side of the street or the other. Once you get to the flatter part north of Lyon Springs Lane, the road feels adequately wide.
