The Race Relations Center of East Tennessee welcomes renowned activist and lecturer Molly Secours to Knoxville to discuss the myth of race and how those classified as white shy away from honest racial discussions.

The event is Tuesday, February 20, at 5:30pm at Pellissippi State, 1610 Magnolia Avenue, and is free to the public.

Knox County is asking for your input on what should be done with the former Justice Center/Universe Knoxville/Transit Center site on State Street, and with the former site of the KNS.

Workshop is at the Knox Area Chamber Partnership offices on Market Square.

The Friends of the Knox County Public Library (FOL) will open the doors on 14,000 square feet of books on Sunday, March 4, as the FOL annual Used Book Sale gets underway. The sale will run through March 10 in the Old Knoxville Convention Center, officially known as the Knoxville Convention and Exposition Center (KCEC). The KCEC is located underneath the Holiday Inn Select, on the World’s Fair Park level. This is a new location for the book sale, and offers three times the space of previous years.

The sale kicks off with a members’ only preview on Sunday, March 4 from 1 p.m. – 5 p.m. Memberships can be purchased at the door. Individual memberships begin at $15.

The sale will open to the general public on Monday, March 5 and continue through Saturday, March 10. Hours are 11 a.m. – 7 p.m. daily, Monday-Friday. Thursday and Friday are designated half-price days. Our “famous bag sale” – all the books you can carry in a bag for $3 - will close out the sale on Saturday, March 10. Saturday hours are 9 a.m. – 3 p.m.

Prices remain the same--$2.00 for adult hardbacks, $1.00 for adult trade paperbacks and 50 cents for mass market paperbacks. Children’s books are priced at $1.00 for hardbacks and 50 cents for paperbacks.

The book sale is a volunteer effort, which allows almost all the proceeds to benefit the Knox County Public Library. This year the Friends are helping to fund the Children’s Summer Reading Program, the Children’s Festival of Reading, the restoration of a Catherine Wiley painting, and video interviews of noted east Tennesseans for the McClung Collection.
