On the first day of early voting, 283 people voted in the city primary election. There were 200 mail-in absentee ballots, bringing the total to 483 so far.

Sadly, the election office says this is the best city election opening day in about a decade.

There are remarkable differences in the candidates. Betsy Pickle wrote an exhaustive analysis of District 1 on KnoxTNToday.com

My favorite district, though, is the rowdy District 6. That one's anybody's guess ... but McKenzie, Butler and Montgomery look strong from out here in Powell.
