Burchett is obviously not
Burchett is obviously not taking this job seriously.
He's taking it seriously.
(in reply to bizgrrl)
He's now a cult leader in charge of a terrorist mob. He knows how to inspire folks to violence, subject them to fear and he has a legitimate view of exactly how to overthrow and sabotage our government. Look for him to lead the movement to obstruct every move Joe Biden makes, and to be a key player in the next coup attempt. What an evil snot he turned out to be.
Newly elected West Virginia
Newly elected West Virginia lawmaker Derrick Evans has been asked to resign after filming himself storming the Capitol building during the riot.
...and that wouldn't be our mayor with his face painted wearing a Viking hat? The guy is pretty dang tall. Turns out the man's name is Jake Angeli. Angeli's cousin verified who he was and stated he's a real American Patriot. I think he's very confused what patriotism is. Now I'm curious, once they find him, if his only punishment will be a slap on the wrist and tell him not to do it again because he's such a great patriot.?
Burchett is a loser. His
Burchett is a loser. His country, state, district, and parents should all be ashamed of him. He is a hypocrite and he can never be trusted.
Selfies
I've been baffled today to see all these selfies the asshats took, now clogging the interwebs. Ya suppose they printed off their own "wanted" posters and dropped them off at the post office, on their way to the Capitol?!
Oh...and I read today that the asshat on the right in that pic, holding the Trump flag, got fired for wearing his employee ID to a riot. You can see it in the pic, on a lanyard around his neck.
Ya can't fix stupid, but ya can probably put it in an 8 x 10 cell easily enough.
... and don't forget Hagerty

Maybe this will be a good lesson learned for him. Always be careful who you lie in bed with, someone is likely to get screwed.

(in reply to michael kaplan)
True, but at least he and Blackburn voted against objections to the EC vote (after the terrorist attack), unlike every R Rep. from TN.
Hagerty is a lawyer
(in reply to R. Neal)
Once things began to go south, Hagerty apparently understood that he and Blackburn were active participants of an insurrection against the United States and he bailed on the cause. My guess is that he spelled out the legal definition of what they were involved in to Marsha Blackburn and the result was that both got out of the insurrection while the getting was good.
I suppose I should take comfort knowing that he was at least that intelligent.
Our other representatives should be held accountable to constitutional standards.
An ineffective, mighty crappy insurrection, is still an insurrection and the consequences for participation are spelled out pretty clearly in the 14th amendment, sec.3.
What if Trump tries to pardon
What if Trump tries to pardon these traitors to democracy that stormed the Capitol building?
It's hard to believe
It's hard to believe politicians could make themselves seem more fickle and lacking in substance. But they have. And they will probably get re-elected.
Burchett cares not for our
Burchett cares not for our country. I can't believe his defending the insurgents attempt to overthrow our government, which is what this is.
According to Burchett, if they rioted in the streets in Portland it is okay to ransack the Capitol building and attempt to harm elected officials.
Has he condemned the actions of these insurgents?
No, he continues to say that the election is not valid. Obviously he does not respect the process.
Burchett's allegiance lies
(in reply to bizgrrl)
Burchett's allegiance lies with the lying Donald Trump and not with the US Constitution. The states, the senate, the congress and judicial system, all said the election was a fair election. Not perfect but fair. And the only one who said that it wasn't, was Trump himself. And that's who Burchett chooses to believe? And Trump was saying this long before the election took place. Probably because he knew he would lose.
That's the problem with these first time congressmen and senators, they see something a little misscue and they think the whole process is wrong. We will never have a truly perfect election, it's been that way probably since we've been a democracy, and it's been that way for all sides, but I'd take it any day of the week over the government Trump is seeking. Does Burchett honestly believe that if Trump was able to steal this election, by force, that he'd ever give up the whitehouse? Burchett needs to really think long and hard who this man he's following stands for. It's definitely not democracy. Burchett is showing just how gullible he is. He needs to ask himself, why do you think Trump wants to pre-pardon himself and his family members? This is totally unprecedented for a president. And just why would he even think he needs to?
A CAPITOL Police officer
A CAPITOL Police officer whose gas mask was ripped off by a MAGA mob screamed for help as his face bled during Wednesday’s Capitol riot.
What will Burchett say about these thugs?
TN U.S. Rep doesn't think
TN U.S. Rep doesn't think insurgency or sedition is a reason for impeachment.
Divisions?
(in reply to bizgrrl)
Tim Burchett has worsened divisions by stepping up as one of the political leaders in the insurgency. He is unfit to serve and the fact that he refuses to do his constitutional duty or even take his job seriously is a pox upon our whole district. He needs to act like a US Congressman and not some drunken frat boy throwing up on his chapter charter. He should be removed for cause under the fourteenth amendment. He is a traitor to our nation. His daddy would be ashamed. He was raised better than this.

Just a peaceful joyous walk
(in reply to jbr)
Just a peaceful joyous walk in the park. The one guy said his commander told him to go?
They said no one tried to stop them. Maybe not after the Capitol police were overrun but from what I saw there was a lot of pushing to breakthrough the barricades. Windows smashed furniture destroyed papers strung about. No matter how pleasant of a picture they try to paint they were still a part of the insurrection.

Just watched a video of one of Trump's rioters having a meltdown after learning he'd been put on a no-fly list at the airport.
Not only should they feel uncomfortable letting him fly because of his insurrection at the whitehouse. But also they should be concerned he would be a covid risk.
Gravy Train

Shall we assume Burchett is booted off the corporate gravy train?
What about Blackburn and Hagerty? I'm looking at a headline from the Jan 3 kns "Blackburn, Hagerty object to Biden certification"
Did they backpedal quickly enough to save the $$ $tream?
14th Amendment
US Constitution, Amendment XIV, Section 3: No Person shall be a Senator or Representative in Congress, or elector of President and Vice-President, or hold any office, civil or military, under the United States, or under any State, who, having previously taken an oath, as a member of Congress, or as an officer of the United States, or as a member of any State legislature, or as an executive or judicial officer of any State, to support the Constitution of the United States, shall have engaged in insurrection or rebellion against the same, or given aid or comfort to the enemies thereof. Would the house members who were in question of being insurrectionist, be allowed to partake in the vote to remove them from office? I can't seem to find anything covering this issue.
Under Article I, Section 5,
(in reply to JaHu)
Under Article I, Section 5, clause 2, of the Constitution, a Member of Congress may be removed from office before the normal expiration of his or her constitutional term by an “expulsion” from the Senate (if a Senator) or from the House of Representatives (if a Representative) upon a formal vote on a resolution agreed to by two-thirds of the Members of that body present and voting.

(in reply to michael kaplan)
Sadly, I can't imagine it passing by two-thirds of the members. And with that said, it still doesn't cover my original question if they would be allowed to vote on their own expulsion.
It depends
(in reply to JaHu)
If the insurrection it’s are deemed ineligible to vote, it will pass easily. And should. But, I don’t have a clue as to how stuff like this should be ruled, nor what the precedent would be.

(in reply to fischbobber)
I wonder if Trump and his fellow alleged seditionists could be hit with a civil suit to pay for all the damage, and repair costs now needed for the Capitol and it's grounds caused from the riots they incited?
Burchett response
Dear Mr. Kaplan,
Thank you for contacting me to express support for removing President Trump from office. It is an honor to serve in Washington on behalf of the Second District, and I appreciate your interest in this matter.
On January 6, 2021 the U.S. Congress met in a joint session to count electoral votes and declare the results of the 2020 presidential election. During this session, rioters invaded the U.S. Capitol building. This riot was a disgusting and criminal display. Fortunately, the Capitol was secured, and Congress was able to resume its Constitutional duties that same day. We do not give in to violent radicals, and we will not let them think a riot is all it takes to bring our Constitutional process and government to a halt. Fear is not how we bring about change in this country.
On January 13, 2020, the U.S. House of Representatives voted on H.Res. 24, Impeaching Donald John Trump, President of the United States, for high crimes and misdemeanors. This resolution sets forth an article of impeachment stating that President Trump incited an insurrection against the government of the United States. I believe President Trump showed extremely poor leadership on Wednesday and should have called off his supporters long before he did. However, every single thug who participated in the riots acted of their own free will and is personally responsible for their crimes. They were not forced by President Trump to do what they did. Removing President Trump with only a few days left in his term would only fan the flames of political divisions and the focus right now needs to be on moving forward to solve the issues facing our nation.
You will be pleased to know that H.Res. 24 passed the U.S. House of Representatives. I appreciate your feedback on this vote, and I will keep your thoughts in mind as I continue to serve East Tennesseans in the U.S. House of Representatives.
Please let me know if I may assist you with any issues in the future.
Sincerely,
Rep. Tim Burchett
Member of Congress

Yeah, it would only fan the flames of the fire Trump started, to the kindling Burchett and his fellow insurrectionist piled on.

Tim is the kid standing over the house they all live in, that's engulfed in flames, holding the matches with a great story about why its not his fault.
Forced sedition?
You don’t force people to join an insurrection movement. You inspire them to participate. Like Trump and Burchett did. It’s called aid and comfort. Just saying.

WBIR Blake Stevens: Do you have an opinion that what happened last week was an impeachable offense?
Burchett:
Well, I was in the middle of it.
And, I think ultimately, and in this country everybody wants to blame somebody for something.
Everybody gets a trophy and I'm not responsible it was something in the environment, somebody said something.
No.
The people that are responsible are the ones that climbed over the fence.
One they climbed over those fences or those barricades they became criminals.
And, um. Many of them are just thugs is all they are.
Yeah. I think the president when he saw the crowds amassing he should have.. he should have said let's stop.
But, one thing you got to realize all those people didn't just run out to a surplus store and buy military gear, combat gear, helmets, knee pads, elbow pads, climbing gear,
They didn't just go do that right after the president spoke.
And, too, you got a realize the day before they had credible.. we had been given intelligience briefings and they had credible threats that there was going to be a problem.
The Capitol Police did not choose... the leadership under Speaker Pelosi did not choose to enhance that...
You know they got... there's probably more people almost watching the student section at Neyland Stadium guarding those goal posts after a big UT win than we had at the Capitol.
I talked to several policemen
There was not a... there was not um any more were gathered .. any more officers were there.
Put them in harms way. Really.
And due to poor leadership.
And, yeah, it's the typical Washington thing. They fired two of them so we'll never really know and they'll be the scapegoats
And then we'll move on.
